Help me get into the 15's!
I went to the track last week and managed to get my personal best of 16.1 @ 84 mph. Here is what the slip looked like:
60'...2.344
330'...6.670
1/8...10.323
MPH...66.60
1000...13.497
1/4...16.125
MPH...84.21
Can anyone with experience please give me some tips to maybe help boost me into the 15's without buying anymore parts. I only have an AEM CAI and HKS axel back. Im running on stock tires too BTW and was wondering if it would be best to put the more worn tires on the front, or put the more worn tires on the back? Any specific tips on launching or maybe a small mod that might help. Next time i go back it will be colder at night and hopefully that will help. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

air down the front tires to about 20-22 psi, air up the backs to about 38psi.... will give you a lil help... launch around 3500rpm i think would help, but ive only launched boosted cars lately, im rusty on all motor, LOL.... your 60' time SUCKS, so thats where you need to get it, concentrate on the launch, try different things, GOOD LUCK, cool to see 15s almost stock...
definately new tires
hi flow cat - it'll let your exhaust flow freely. take it from a megan hi flow cat owner
got mine for $100
header can help, but their pretty exspensive for like 1hp or 2.
and definately start removing pieces of your interior to strip down some weight. spare tire, trunk, rear seats, even passenger seat. be careful with the passenger seat though, i think their hooked up to the srs? not sure..
but you cant expect to be in the 15's with just 2 mods with stock wheels..

Yeah i know i the 60 ft needs help, but I DO HONESTLY believe its possible to get into the 15's almost stock if your a good driver. I just started racing this summer and need experience and im only 17 haha.
What tires do you guys think would be better, the balder ones up front, or the lesser bald ones up front. Not really sure which would be better for traction. I usually launch at 3500-4000 just dropping the clutch. Should i try feathering it and if so, how would i do that? Thanks guys for the input.

honestly, for the mods you have, your time is pretty impressive. But like said above............your 60' time blows. Are you spinning on the launch ??
Try some weight reduction and work on ur launches and you will get it pretty easy.

Since everything was already said that could help you driving ill just say the easiest one
buy a faster car to begin with
buy a faster car to begin with
Let me give you a different perspective. Bracket race and learn to race consistently instead of beating too hard on a commuter car. You could race NHRA Trophy or Street classes and make money for winning.

I do have yokohama AVS-100 but those are on 17" rims that slow me down unbelievably. Ive never been able to go faster then 16.8 with my 17's
Thanks for the advice and add anything else please and good luck LazyDog when u go to the track. Let us know what u run. I need to get a 2.1 60 like you then i;ll be set.

wow.. i'm with everyone else that said that you're time is impressive with just an intake and exhaust. just thought i'd give you props..
My apologies, looks like you take this stuff seriously...
You might try one run without the air filter if you're feeling brave. Might grenade you motor if you suck up something, but it could also be worth a tenth. If your intake is like mine, you might be able to disconnect the lower tube and run an open intake in your engine bay to reduce the potential of sucking up something bad. The freer air flow might offset the slightly increased heat of the engine compartment. Could be really good on a cold November night.
The biggest no-buck improvement is weight reduction if you're not already doing that (seats, tire and other stuff as recommended above). I'm guessing from your times that you are already doing all of this. See if you can borrow a race seat from someone for the driver, could be worth 0.03 secs.
I don't know where the fuel pickup is on our gas tanks, but run only enough fuel in the tank to ensure fuel delivery during the run. Every gallon of gas slows you down by 0.006 secs.
Riskier stuff - run a thinner synthetic motor oil. Could be worth 0.01 to 0.1 depending on what you're running now.
I don't know how our cranks sit with respect to oil levels in the pan, but if windage is a potential problem, run with the oil at the lowest point on the dipstick to reduce oil drag on the crank.
Have a friend spray several cans of compressed air on your plenum just before you race to chill it down as much as possible.
Pray hard for cool dense air for the last race.
That's about all I can think of without spending additional $$$.
Good luck.

Yea its my hobby, but i'm not going to like kill myself over it. I know breaking into the 15's is stupid when you consider ive grown up working on muscle cars with my dad since i was in elementary school and realize a time of 16.2 at 80 something MPH is a joke but it was a goal i set and i want to achieve it.
The only thing on ur list above i might consider is taking out some seats but i dunno if its even worth it. Hopefully just cold weather will be enough.
Can someone please answer though which tires would be better up front. Balder ones or ones with more tread? THANKS

Keep in mind 100 lbs is 0.1 secs. Removing your front and rear seats and cold air may put you where you want to be. Do it once so you can claim a 15.xx run then don't sweat it...
Balder tires will have more contact area. The down side is balder tires caused from racing may not be as sticky. Short answer is I don't know...

take out extra crap off your ride... i.e. spare tire, jacks, passenger seat and make sure you have only less than a gallon of 100octane race fuel on the tank, IK20 denso iridium spark plugs, and new slicks... that'll get you on 15s...

New slicks, wtf if anyone goes out buys slicks for a 16 second car kill yourself. You wanna break into hte 15's go doing the coldest night u can go. Work on your lanch and you will hit 15.9. If you go out buy slicks, please do not it not worth the time and the money for a 16 second car.
take out the back seats.. EASY 15's like no tomoro.. or if you dont have that much time .. take out the spare and the floor with carpenting.. take out the rear carpets and passenger side carpet.. should shave 50 + pounds... u wana get low 15s ? take out passanger the back seats and everything i just said.. take out your headlight and try to redirect your piping to face the air flow comming in.. and/or take intake filter off.. thats all i can say as to what hasnt been said in detail.. GOOD LUCK MAN..

Yea i dunno if 100 octane would be good.
I'm goin next friday night. I guess im gonna have to strip everything just to get into the 15's haha. Im gonna keep my same tires what ive been running. I'd like to try that headlight thing, but its such a pain in the *** to get them off our car i doubt i will do that. Thanks for all the tips guys.
