Hey everyone,
As some of you know, I moved to So. Cal about a month ago for law school. But anways, I was just wondering if you guys had any suggetions on which beach is the best to hang out at. In terms of walking around and checking out shops/stores, restaurants, bars?
I met a girl last week and since I don't really know her well enough to know what she likes to do besides clubbing, I was thinking 'going to the beach to walk around would be good (I know she likes the sunny weather plus I haven't been to the beach all summer).' Now I know there are beaches in particular around LA and Orange Cty that are better than others. Any beaches that have lots of fun things to do/see besides the actual beach itself?
(oh and times of when to go would be good also. I've heard weekends are brutual for parking and stuff)
Thanks
Joe

if you want to go to a beach with things to do. i suggest santa monica beach. it has the pier (food, a little roller coaster, shops, games) and its walking distance from 3rd street promenade. shopping galore =).. its at the end of the 10 west freeway if you keep going.. and if you go further down, zuma beach is jsut a while away.. its a nice beach. nice and clean
Definitely Santa Monica Pier + 3rd St Promenade.
Huntingtong Beach has bonfires at night.
I know its not in LA or OC county but...
If you like driving...take the 101 N all the way up to Pismo Beach.
Beautiful scenery during the drive and lots of things to do there.
And the beach...the sand so smooth, pure, and white.
The wind blows the sand so easily...I lost a contact because of it =(

Thanks, the more info the better...
I'm probably gonna try and go next weekend. Any other suggestions? I'll probably check out the town/city websites of the beaches you mention to get a better gauge.

I know its always packed, but Huntington really has a lot to do. Not only the beach, but Main St. as well. Only problem is that its really packed on weekends and friday nights. But it does offer a lot to do. Newport is ok, if you want the beach theme with a lot to do, check into Balboa Island. Kinda cool to walk around, and you take the ferry over and I like it. Thats in Newport Beach area as well so lots to do.

Thanks for the input guys. Didn't realize there were so many good beaches. As it stands, probably Newport, Huntington, or Santa Monica beach; although that Balboa island thing sounds cool too.
yeah, venice beach is really fun. The freak row is separated from the quiet waterfront, so if you want entertainment, you can check out all the wierdos on the strip, and if you want a nice walk on the beach just head on down. Oh, and if you are thinking of taking her to dinner, there is a nice romantic, open-air Italian place called C&Os nearby. I highly recommend that place.
