Talking It's DONE...1st Turbo'd 01 EX in Maine!!!! NOW with PIC'S Pages 2&3

Well I finished it tonight at like 9. We forgot to tighten the oil return outta the turbo and it was a biznatch to tighten but got er done. So far its running good....I think. I know I'll be getting Mr.CEL sooner or later. Taking it easy right now, breaking in new clutch. Boost is at about 4.5-5 psi, I watch my gauges now very carefully. The a/f seems to wave like normal but when starting to build boost it goes lean and then back to rich....but slowly. It somewhat scares me cause I'm not sure if it will come out of lean....aaahhhhh...but it does. No knocking so I'm good and the inline pump is just a whining like a bastid. Ima gonna run it like this till next spring when I can get the money for VAFC/Tuned properly. No overboosting for me thank you. I will post pics in my gallery when I have time. Back to work tomorrow...gotta teach those kids...lol....summer vaca has bren to long! Any experienced turbo guys just drop a line on how the whole a/f gauge works with your setup so I know that I'm not the only one or if its normal and not to worry! Thanks for any help I recieved and PROPS TO JEFF AT SLP!!!!!!!

Good job man...as far as the a/f gauge goes, i say get wideband...its more expensive but a lot more effective. When i used my friends wideband (off his turbo MR-2) i tuned my car using my safc, and got it tuned perfect, so i went out and bought a wideband

oh yes...thanks to VinylPlaya for the chat on boosting lol...sorry man. Well today was my first day back to school.....not first year hehe I'm a 3rd year Art Teacher.......i got balled out for wearing a hat to a meeting last week by my supervisor, but its all good I still have my job hahahaha, she's like 100 and is from the old school ways of thinking, ya know before calculators were made...lol...jkjk. Anywho, I can't wait for the sun to go down so I can go out for a cruize.
Dezod...thanks again.....the BOV spring was cut short? But it closes when u drive because the car is usin vacuum...at idle it doesn't, thus holding it open....thats why the vacuum goes to like 20 on the gauge. BOV sounds great!! I'll take some pics in a bit...I may go wash her up...kinda dirty from workin on it.

Did you have to change any stock parts done to your car like axles or brake system?

I upgraded my rotors to Powerslots, and pads to Hawk HPS. The axles should be fine. When I inspected them they looked mint at 36,000 miles. I will only be running about 7 psi max. So I think I will be fine. Now I just have some fuel issues...but we are fixing them and I should have everything running safely within the month. Ordering Emanage and new FMU.

The spring holds like 40 psi so we cut it and put some washers in. If it's staying open you just need to add washers to add tension. Glad you like it!

Well I haven't really had a chance to drive it all out. I just took the FMU/pump out tonight and I'm sending it back to SF. Mike said he wants to rebuild it and test everything. That is awesome of him. Thanks again Mike! When I get it back in a week or so (sending tomorrow)....we'll get it back in and I will test it. I also had to get a new ) o2 sensor....causing some poblems. If everything runs smooth and I'm getting the fuel i need. I was running lean....I am going to order the Emanage. Jeff said he'd hook me up from SLP...right Jeff? HAHAHAHAHA. Emanage then tweak then fun....ahh can't wait.

congrats on your setup, but i would just recommend that you get it tuned and soon...Ive had a fair share of friends of mine that have boosted thier cars and didnt get it tuned and ended up blowing their motors weeks (sometime days later). I dont know your setup, but i would recommend converting your system to an OBD1 configuration and runinng a Hondata stand alone engine management system. It will be a bit more expensive, but it will save you your money in the end. If you do plan on going with internals later on, this will be perfect for running a higher boost application.

Too costly to convert to OBD 1. I think he's planning on going tuning with an e-manage in the future.

Ok. If you look closely I have no FMU at this time. I had to send it back to SF to be re-tuned. I trimmed my bumper (5 hr job) to fit the FMIC perfectly. I hate hack job/half assed work. Then I used black rubber door edge moulding to go around where we cut to clean it up and make it look...well stock. It is hard to see that cause it's getting dark but I will get a brighter pic later. I also used my TB portion of my Injen. It has the AIT bung and fit perfectly. All I needed was a transition hose. Notice the blue silicone couplers...ya I'm proud of em...lol.
