ok i have a 2004 honda civic ex coupe i recently purchased a panasonic cq-df802u cd player for the car. i don't know how to do install stereo's so i took it to a local place. so i sit down on the couch to wait for them to put it in the tech comes up to me and tells me we have a problem. like i dont have enough with this car. (i'll get to that later) he tells me that my keyless entry and dome light go thru the radio. and if i would want to keep my existing honda keyless entry with dealer upgrade alarm he will have to mount the original honda cd player inside of my dash and hook it up to the new one and the new one will show but thats gonna run me about 150. my other option he said was to get a new keyless entry he said he can take care of the dome and the new radio will not have to be put in the dash so i didnt have him do anything yet because it was late and i was so dumbfounded. so what should i do guys? have you heard this before? gimme some feedback! also went to honda on monday to have an ashtray and lighter installed they told me they cant install it because i have the fog lights and the fog light switch is where the ashtray needs to go. did anyone hear of this? lemme tell you i have no luck when it comes to parts for this car.

i'm not any good when it comes to cars perfect example i had a 2000 mitsubishi diamante i heard you could get chrome door edge molding and chrome out your grill yourself so i went ahead a brought it..it took me 1 hour to do it when everyone else was doing it in 15 minutes but maybe that was because i'm a perfectionist and i wanted everything to be even

There's a step by step DIY (Do It Yourself) on here. Not sure if it has a parts list on it, but here's what you'll need.
New HU
Wiring Harness
Dash Kit
Connectors(I prefer closed end) or solder and soldering iron
Screwdrivers
Maybe a socket set (can't remember if the hex head screw behind the ashtray is slotted for use of a screwdriver)
It's not that hard to do. Follow the DIY, and you'll be fine. It'll save you all of the charges on labor. Also, the ashtray and fog light switch are not in the same place. The ashtray is on the bottom, the fog light switch is above it on the same panel. There should be a pre cut hole that you simply break a piece of plastic out of to install the switch.

Either this guy hasn't worked on any relatively recent Civic, or he's trying to take you for a ride.
I'd either do a DIY (I didn't do it, but that was due to Eclipse's strict warranty stuff on installs), or find another installer.

THAT IS A LOAD OF CRAP
Keyless entry and dome light does not go thru the deck on an 04.
Benz, I PERSONALLY have an 04 and I did my own install as well as helped out countless others, INCLUDING EX owners. Not once did I run into this problem. Tell them to go fukc themselves and do the install yourself.
Keyless entry and dome light still work fine on mine, odds are they will still look fine tomorrow and the day after that and so on...

just to update you i went a best buy, by my house to let them try the moron couldn't even get the dash off so he was no help...i called another best buy i spoke to some mad cool chinese kid who told me he did a 04 civic w/ no problems so i made an appointment with him tomorrow hope everything goes well...will keep you posted
i have an 02 EX, and nothing goes through the radio but.....the radio.... the keyless entry, etc are totally separate things. in pontiacs, a LOT of stuff goes through the head unit, but most of that stuff can also be re-wired so you don't have to keep the head unit in the dash or ne thing (which is good because a lot of them come with two-dim head units!) hopefully they can take care of you at the best buy. i work at circuit city, i've never heard of anything like that for newer vics, just older ones and pontiacs. good luck!

You should not trust ANY shop that tells you this...there has to be a shop that has worked on a Honda since '99 in NYC.

IT'S ALL OVER
Went to Best buy in westbury, long island and they hooked me up..they installed my deck w/ no problems from the installers mouth himself. My factory keyless entry work and everything else. I guess the place i went to has no experience with civic's even tho they tell me they do SI's all the time but whatever its in there now and looks great....now i need some speakers he he he stock sucks

The fog light switch does go where the ashtray will go. On the EX, the center console is different and there is no place for the switch for the fog lights.
You could always change the center console to that from an 01. Then you could install it, but the 01 just has cup holders, no cover. Your choice.
