THis just may be the DIY of the decade!!
I just removed the 90 degree elbow connection from the AEM SRI and put the filter directly on the end of the 1st AEM throttlebody extenion tube !!! The filter sits nice and close to the firewall to . Man, When I launch I feel a lot of low end- more than stock- and the accelleration was phenominal! A huge increase!! Has anyone else tried this?? It's so simple to do. I challenge all to try it and post your thoughts!! Making the strait shot of air into the throttle body or eliminating the other sized tube really did something.
And the sound ? OH MAN!!!

Oh.. Okay, I'm sorry you have a 2 peice SRI. I have the fipkII so it wouldn't apply to me. I did buy this gigantic tube filter for my fipkII. I'ts so fricken big that it hits my hood. I noticed a bit more performance.

When i said "dramatic" I meant it. !0 minutes and a screwdriver and you'll see. It outperfomrs the stock air box and outperforms the AEM 2 piece. They probably knew that and figured nobody would pay 150.00 for 1 foot long pipe!!

Rep Power: 0 To further improve on the setup, since it is further away from heat sources, it would be easier to isolate the whole area, where it would bee difficult with the way the unit is designed to fit. Thats my Saturday project. That whole back are is wide open and can be shrouded easily.

Rep Power: 0 It won't screw anything up except your performance. Heat soak just means the filter is sucking in the hottest air possible because the filter is so close to the engine. That's why CAI's are a good thing. Gains from this setup are possible for the first few minutes, until the car warms up, then you're done. It will be even worse on a really hot day.

Rep Power: 0 Intakes are great noise makers! When I was a little kid I used clip a baseball card on my bicycle frame so that it rubbed against my spokes when I rode my bike. I thought it sounded so cool!
Now I'm older and nothings changed. I put this aluminum pipe on my throttle body and a filter on the end of it and boy it sure sounds cool.
I wonder if that baseball card made my bicycle any faster?
Sad thing is my bike was alomost as fast as my civic.... J/k

I know what you mean, I did the same thing as a kid. I know these CAI can't possibly do much for a four cylinder but make noise but I do like noise! I thought about adding a CAI, along with a quality exhaust to get more of that baseball card/spoke sound. 
Heck, it might even make me think I am going faster, you never know!
