Weight Reduction
Will reducing the weight of the car signifcantly affect the acceleration of the car(All other items remaining equal, stock).
Lets say we remove the rear seats, spare tire and floor mats. Or you wont feel anything?

it'll definitely feel peppier. A hypothetical rule of thumb that seems to be floating around is that 100 pounds = 10 hp. So if you somehow manage to lose 100 pounds, you'll gain 10 hp

Is 10 HP a big deal? In terms of 0-60 times and 1/4 miles times. I guess there would be drastic removal of parts to shed 100 pounds.
I heard you can gain something like 8 hp from a catback is that true? The only think I don't like about the catback is the muffler I would like to keep my stock muffler.

Yes it is a little noisy but I don't mind. Check out my prior post about weight reduction.

not much weight but it all adds up. I plan on getting a carbon fiber hood, trunk, lexan rear windows, racing seats and anything else out there to get as light as possible. If i can shave 3-5 tenths it would be worth it to me.

Thanks,
Good thread, got very technical about rims and tires.
do you think i can stuff in the insulation that you can get from hope depot....under the door sill....kick panel....center console....the side holes on the trunk (behind the taillight)....to insulate the car?
that won't add more weight, right?

basically weight reduction is not worth it if your car weights 2500 lbs stock out the factory and has a SOHC 1.7L engine....if u had a m3 and gutted it to 2500 then were talkin but weight reduction is civics is 2 things....not practical...such as getting rid of your spare tire....ive used it A LOT and all u do really is lose creature comforts...u dont buy a civic for supreme auto crossing and to tell u the truth unless u swap the d17 for a k20a2 and do a full suspension swap ur not gonna do jack on the street....take it from me....ive dumped a good G at least in my suspension without including the cost of rims tires springs and shocks and even though i can keep with some cars (im not gonna list them cuz then people are jus gonna be ****** about it cz they dont know anything) that i should not be able to keep up with soon as we exit the corner they punch it and so do I....cept i dont move! EM2=crap EM2 w/ k20a2 and full suspension set up....ONE MEAN S.O.B.

aftre i put in my subs it felt alooot slower. before them my friend in his base RSX used to beat me by 1 car length. after the subs, he had 2-3 car lengths on me. i dont care because its slow either way and id rather listen to good music.

Keep car as light as possible. My car still feels weighed down with the kit and sub with amps. Spare tire can come out, but be sure you get a can of fix-a-flat just in case. Sound deadening doesn't help either. It all depends on what you're willing to sacrifice.
i wouldnt bother with the back seat, all fabric foam etc. but if you want results, take out stuff like spare tire, seatbelts in front and rear shifter **** and somtimes i hear if you take out the steering wheel and replace it with duct tape it significantly reduces weight and take the hood off and the engine weighs alot so take that out then you'll have your 10 sec car
I don't know why a lot of people take out some of the things they take out. What, they take out all their sound deadening material and it loses about 1 pound. Retarded if you ask me
