Turbo worth it?
So is the good ol turbo worth the money on the d17 for the extra hp? Not planning to buy soon but maybe in the future so i wanted to know all the turboheads thoughts.

well, if you are happy with your civic and are looking for something fun to drive then yes. I am happy with my car, but i want to go faster...........but it simply isn't worth it to me to dump alot of money into a single cam motor. I will be doing a full custom exhaust, clutch and a vafc and that is it.

i heard about 175hp after the install. but i think i cars are decently light so that means they should cruise not to bad. no i'm not looking to race just a fun drive. although you always want to go faster then what you have too.

well, put it this way, when you dump 3k into an engine, you would hope that it would rule almost any unmodded engine within reason. However, even with the turbo you will still most likely be even witha stock wrx if not a little faster. If you want that cool, I don't think it's worth it.

If you wanna go alittle bit faster, sure its worth it to grab urself a turbo. If you wanna go faster after the turbo, you can build your engine, run more boost, upgrade as necessary, and you should be able to put out around 250hp if not more if ur built right and tuned. But then again, thats money! But if you want more bang for ur buck, then go for a turbo, it'll give you more hp, rather than spending around $1000 on intake, exhaust, header, stuff like that.
But like ya said, if ya wanna go a little faster, I'd say go for it.

im werkin on my turbo kit right now. but im just puttin it together with used parts. got a turbo from a junkyard. got a used intercooler off ebay.. got a cheap as blow off valve off ebay too. still need the turbo header tho... and everything else. but hey, if i can get to about 175hp and a lil more torque. ill be happy. ill upgrade as i have more money. then start buyin the good stuff. lol. so far i got $265 spent. and i got the turbo, intercooler and blow off valve. not bad huh??
i think it better to get the good stuff off the bat cause then when you upgrade you wasted all that money you spent on the first parts, plus i wouldn't want a shabby set up that might not hold up and blow a head gasket or throw a being. then that cheap little set up gets alot more expesive.

what the hell? ... I've beaten soooo many modded wrx's at only 7 psi. I hear guys in here running 10+ (please don't boost that high if you don't know what you're doing). My car has raced even with a few modded STi's and kept dead even on the fwy with a new m3 80-120 (stopped after 120)
if you get a turbo, then my advice is to GET AN AFTERMARKET CLUTCH FIRST

Yes. DEF an aftermarket clutch. I can beat WRXs and S2000s left and right... But I've spent quite a bit on the car...
If you like your car and don't want to spend too much on insurance, it's fun. But don't plan on spending only 3k to get a properly working turbo setup. I'd say about 4-4500 will cover all of the basics. What you do beyond that is up to you.

Prob about 20 at the wheels... I have yet to use it when that car has been running right though... If I can get IK24s in time for Friday, I'll be running 9-10psi, methanol injection, and the ntercooler. I also got my emanage working yesterday so hopfully I can make a map for nitrous and get the car to blow into the 13s.

so what are all the turbo parts and accesories that i would need to run a turbo on my stock internals safely? madwheel you suggested that 4-4500 would cover basics, what about an install by a mechanic how much? As for alcohol injection i'm not familiar with what that is but it seems you can run a higher psi with that in stock internals.

if you don't get one and you're running 7 psi, you're clutch is gonna go out quick. You'll start bogging your car when you start off and when racing a lot, it'll began to slip... a lot.
get one!
so im lookin at all your guys' talk about a turbo kit on this d17 engine....and my question is, how much are we all gonna end up spending to get our cars to be as fast as a stock evo or sti.....i mean i love my car and all and i really wanna turbo it but im not convinced that it makes our cars that much better....and hey MADWHEEL, have you or are you looking to put some lower compression pistons on ur car so u can boost higher? im really lookin to turbo my car within the next 2 months so i need all the info i can...so far i got all the bolt-ons (intake, exhaust, header, pulleys, cam gear, vafc2, and hondata)....its a quick car but not quick enough for me...please give me more info about turbo kits and what company makes them for our cars...thanks

my car is faster on 5psi than it is on 8psi....y...b/c my stage 2 Centerforce clutch SUCKS MAJOR ***....It slips on 5psi too but lets just say on 8psi, the clutch is engaging at 6000-6500rpm and I'm shifting at 7000rpm
but I got an ACT clutch sitting right here in my room...when I get time off from work, I'll get it installed so I havent felt the full potential yet of my turbo kit but soon
