Why does my car hiss when i turn it off?
Why does my car hiss when i turn it off?
Just kidding i know why but does anyone know what brands are louder and which are quieter. I have a AEM CAI and it is quite noticable at shut off. I was thinking about getting a FIPK and was thinking about it...since that one is plastic is it quieter than the metal AEM?
Anyone ever hear both or compare any of them as far as how loud the shutoff hiss is?

when I turn my car of it make's the hiss noise kinda loud the funny thing is when my friends or ppl here my car turn off they ask if I have turbo.
Haven't heard the plastic one just yet but I know someone who's got an FIPK and I've been told it doesn't have that noticeable hiss. I can report back in a couple of days when I actually hear it.

Don't worry about it.
It's completly Normal.
It's just the stopping of airflow up the intake track.
The stock intake is made to keep the engine quiet for driver comfort.
Every car company prides their ability to keep the cabin quiet and tranquil during even the harshest conditions. Therefore, you do not hear the factory intake "sucking" in the air. The aftermarket intakes sound much louder than the stock intakes.
EDIT-
I would guess hissing sound will be almost identical for K&N and AEM intakes.

The loudest i've heard is the Injen CAI, that thing is hella loud!! I have a K&N FIPK, but i have a camaro, i haven't heard it on a civic. I barely get any sound from mine when i turn it off though.

I have a FIPKII, it has the hiss, but its not terribly loud unless you have the hood up. Havent heard the AEM or Injen, so I dont know how it compares, but it dosent bother me.
If your thinking of switching, do it, a friend of mine that has an AEM(Lberry on here) rode in it last autoX event, & he said it had a noticeable midrange pull over his AEM, I have heard similar claims also, its worth it IMO even if its just as loud.

There really are some dumb people I've got an Injen CAI, and let me tell you...THAT THING RIPS IN HIGH RPMs. It's so loud I can't hear it over my exhaust, but then again I have a GReddy Evo and I consider it one of the quieter cat-back systems on the market today =).

Noise is NOT from intake.

The noise is coming from the Throttle body not the dam intake.
i got asked the turbo queston they thought it was a bov going off when i turned the car off. after i told them no they got into a neon with a huge wing and stickers all over the place i just laughed

Besides just making hissing noises on shut down, the intake I have makes a big high pitch noise, like whistling at certain throttle positions. I used to be stupid and just drive around at that throttle position...... but it's kind of ricey, but it's still fun once in a while haha.
