Tanabe RSpec or Megan Cat Back
Good Morning Everyone, I need some help. I want a cat back, but I'm a bit edgy about spending $500+ on the Tanabe RSpec. I was looking at a cat back made by Megan Racing for our cars and it looks pretty nice. It's also around $300. I love the way the Tanabe looks and sounds. The Megan is pretty comparable. I haven't driven with either so I can't say anything about performance. And really what is performance in our cars if we don't drop $3000 on a turbo or more for a swap? Anyway my question for you all... Is the Tanabe RSpec REALLY worth an extra $200 or would I do just as well to go with the Megan Racing? Also for those of you who got your RSpecs for $475, where did you get them? If Dezod would throw me a deal like that, my question would be answered. Hint...Hint... ;-)
So don't let me down 7thGeners! Give me some feedback.
Thanks!

The Megan is in NO WAY comparable to the Tanabe. The tanabe is just amazing. It has a great sound and you can feel the power. Plus it's Stainless steel.
Megan is a generic brand that anyone can get.
It just depends on if you wanna spend the dough to get higher quality product or not.

Thanks Fly, I was really hoping to get a response from you. Any ideas on where to shop for the Tanabe? Dezod has it for $520 +$50 for shipping.

Dezod is a very trustworthy company. I paid about the same for my Tanabe. Right now I can't find anything cheaper online. Tornactive is more expensive than Desod right now.
Go to AFS Motorsports http://afsmotorsports.com/tanabespecial.htm. I got mine for Honda Civic LX with the adaptor (which is a $100+ value) for the same price of the EX model one. I paid $475 free shipping. Right now it's at $450 but I don't know if there's free shipping still. In any case, the packaging was cool and I received it in good time. The price is pretty unbeatable, though I did see a new one sold on eBay for $300 which pissed me off because I had already bought mine.

The "special" price is no more. I went ahead and ordered it at $525. I worked them down to $10 shipping. So at least it's a BIT cheaper then elsewhere. Thanks for your help everyone!

tanabe's exhaust isn't that great ... the piping hangs low, the muffler hangs low ... the sound is ok. I switched to the Evo2 and it is much better, imo ... MUCH deeper than the tanabe, although the muffler is huge, you don't see it because it is under the bumper and the piping doesn't hang as low as the tanabe's. I scraped the tanabe on some speed bumps when I was stock height... wtf? Evo2 is also quieter than the Tanabe ... if that's what you're going for
PLUS ... for about an inch after the flange that connects to the cat, the piping is stock diameter ... gay ... I don't see much power gains from that exhaust. Evo2 doesn't have that ... very good

I also had an AEM CAI w/bypass valve. Those were my only 2 mods on the car when i made the dyno run.

good choice on the tanabe. great sound, sometimes to loud for my taste but thats what the silencer is for. some say it hangs low but i dont think so, and if your lowered you'll scrape with any catback with 2.5" piping, i dont care who makes it.

What??? :zbsflag: 16hp with just an intake and exhaust. Humm, I would like to see that dyno sheet. Or, I have a dyno at my shop and would like to see that actually happen. Didn't you just say that you gained 16hp with just the DH racing pulley in another thread? Are all your mods worth 16hp?

Here is your post about the DH racing pulley:
"Actually I couldn't even tell the difference in my gain of 16hp when we dynoed my car. So I wouldn't doubt that you might not feel the difference. Maybe my butt-dyno is off since I could honestly "feel" the gains even though they showed up on the dyno and my faster track times. I think I'm just too afraid to claim something as a great gain when it might not be there."
