I have a 2003 LX, and at some point when I can have them both done, I want a carbon fiber hood and trunk. I also want to have the OEM wing installed. Do these not jive? Is CF paintable to match the wing? I don't care that the hood would be a different color, but the stock wing in the car's color (silver) on a black trunk would look a little too ghetto for my taste. Any help appreciated for a new guy non-tuner trying to learn.

Does the painting defeat the purpose of installing the CF for the idea of weight loss? Trying in theory anyway to get more out of power mods by lightening the car.
to be honest with you man the weight your gonna save from putting on the cf hood and trunk is not gonna be that much of a difference at all. your gonna spend at least $300 for the hood and $300 for the trunk, thats minimum cost, the fiber images trunk is $600. so i say if you want performance, take that $600 and put it towards engine mods

^^ depends on what performence your trying to improve. Lighting the car may not make it accelerate all that much quicker, but every LB lost will help you in the corners.

That's a total of 34.5lbs of weight saved. Not to mention the 4lbs of weight that I'm saving with my CF pillars. Lord knows how much weight I'm gonna save once I get my Spoon CF seats.
It's retarded to paint CF. I paid a lot of money for it and I damn well am gonna show it off.

Obviously the weight reduction due to carbon fiber will improve your performance and if tastefully applied it can look good too. Honestly though one of the points of carbon-fiber is to show it off and let ppl know you have it, so painting it defeats some of the purpose. If you're really only concerned w/ performance then it shouldn't matter what your car looks like. The vic in modified last month was turboed w/ imo hella ugly carbon-fiber, but it could smoke the hell outta me.

Depends on if hes already got the wheels and tires, and what class he would be bulilding the car up for.
Me, if I ever put CF on my car it would be painted. Im not in to the whole "LOOK AT ME" thing, Sleepers thats where its at.

and Renamazazo is right, that would bump me out of my current autocross class (Street touring) in to Street Modified or Prepaired, where I'd get my *** handed to me day in day out.
Street modified weight rules....
Up to 3.0L, naturally aspirated, OHC engines
FWD: 1800 pounds
So I'd have to do alot more weight reduction then CF parts to make a compeditive car.

Carbon Fiber is indeed paintable. The only reason I would see someone painting carbon fiber is for show purpose (i.e. marble the cf hood to match the car, add a clear of flakes, etc.) The only problem is that you have to find a place that has done that before and knows what they are doing. If they sand the hood/trunk too much, they will start sanding into the resin (sp?) since both the resin and clear look the same when sanding. If they do sand into the resin and not know, then when they paint, your paint will have a fisheye effect in some spots due to the paint being applied on the clear at some parts and the resin at others. My suggestion.....don't paint cf.

What seperates me from most of you, is that like most of you, I would put carbon fiber into my car for the idea that it will reduce weight, but, unlike most of you, I wouldn't care to show it off. I live in San Bernardino, CA. and it's pretty ghetto here. I try to keep my car as much on the low down as possible, and not to mention keeping it clean without making it busy. I drive a NBP civic, and if you were to see it, anything but rims would be unnoticable. However, what you don't see is the carbon fiber hood, trunk, fenders and side mirrors.
