Need to sand and prime before painting on grill?

ok I've searched and tired of searching, as there are no exact answers to this so I will post...I bought a chrome RS grill from a member on this site, but my car's white, I wanna paint the lip white, do I have to sand and prime the lip before I apply paint to it? or can I just paint the thing? Also, what's the best brand and color number for the taeffeta white civics on paint?

yes, you definatly have to sand and prime it. you should probaly spray clearcoat on it after, or the paint will just come off in the rain.

Im not sure about the paint # for white

sand it w/ 400 grit, go to home depot or lowe's and ask for some of the stuff to prep it-or get some from a local body shop

Oh also, the back of the grill where screws are supposed to go, two of the six holes cracked, and one of it is completely gone. Will there be a problem for me to install the grill without these functioning holders? umm, I circled the holes in the pics, the ones with the "X" is the ones that cracked and the one with "XX" is the one that is completely torn off.

You don't need to use the radiator cover (I think it won't even fit, since you have a coupe), so just leave that thing off and it'll be fine.

^^^ um, how does that answer my question? I was asking if there will be a problem for me to install the grill since the screw holders are cracked and one is broken off...unless the screw holders are used to hold the radiator cover together...if that's what u mean

on my grill i bought...its not the same as yours but i had to take the radiator cover off and had to use the four holes on the bottom to screw it in. so you dont even need those other holes at the top.

Those 6 screw holders on top of the grill is for radiator cover.
Coupe

Sedan

You won't actually need all 6 screws hold radiator cover anyways.
I wouldn't worry about it.
4 holders on the bottom of grill, Which attaches to the front bumper.
Coupe radiator cover will not fit with that grill.
Spend $15 on sedan radiator cover, If you really want it.

I got the same grill, the lower lip of it is chrome too, so all I am going to do is sand blast it and then prep, and paint it. easiest way to do it, that way you can be sure to get all the chrome off it.
