Amp keeps cutting out
Amp keeps cutting out
Finally got my system in my 2k4, and now the amp doesn't stay powered. Everything worked for a couple days. Now the amp power led will go full on then dim almost to nothing or go completly out. Any ideas? I checked my fuses, and I checked the line to ensure power was coming from the battery. I did wire my neon tubes off the dist block and grounded it to the same ground. Could that have an effect? Also I split my remote power line of of the head unit for the antenna and the amp. Gotta have the am radio!
Any help, suggestions, anything.

I'm not sure what you wrote, but splitting up wires like a Y can loose circuits/power. It could be your battery... maybe your amp is going into a different mode from preventing it from a potential blow out?
I did the same setup in my old 88 beretta and everything worked fine.
I have a JVC LH1000 , a set of JL 12W0's power wedge setup, & a rockford fosgate punch 400 4 channel amp.
Could it be the split from the remote power, not keeping enough power to the amp to remain on?

If the remote doesn't send a strong enough signal, the amp won't turn on. Check the remote line. Many remote lines have a fuse in them too. Its usually right off the HU, and less than 1 amp.
I'm gonna guess it's either a remote issue, or a bad ground. Check both. If you are splicing the remote wire to 2 amps, it shouldent be an issue as long as you use a crimp on bell style connector or something to do it.

under the rear seat, there is a nice bolt which connects the seat belt. it's easy to use, and for one small-medium amp it will suffice. be sure to sand it down with a dremel or something though.
you used the red wire from your HU right? yellow is battery, red is remote turn on lead. try using that wire if you aren't.
or splice into the cigarette lighter power wire. the yellow wire is only hot when the car is on also, so it can be your remote turn on if you want

Red is not remote turn on. It's either blue, or blue with a white stripe...I cant remember right now.
Why are you spliced to the radio AND the remote? There are seperate wires in the harness for that...

Definately a wiring problem. Re-check the remote (blue) wire and ground point. Neons don't really use much power anyway to affect it. If the amp is sort of working, then you have power running to it.

red wire is switched (radio on and off),
yellow is constant (memory),
blue is power antenna,
blue with white strip is amp turn on.
as long as its good you shold be able to split it like 5-6 times. mines split 3 and have no problems. good grounds are seatbelt bolts def.
I would try hooking up another amp to see if its the amp, if you did check the wiring and its good.

I used the blue w/o stripe I believe. Also I don't believe i have the to blue wires, one w/ a stripe and one w/o a stripe. I volted the remote wire at the amp and was getting about 11.30v consistantly.

I would recheck all conections. It does sound like a bad connection somewhere. If your using the glass fuses try a new fuse even. Sometimes they break free inside but dont burn out and they can give you power issues to. I would guess nott he remote turn on thou. I would think it would either turn the amp on or not. I wouldnt think it would do a partial turn on as in a dim power light of the amp. Sounds more like amp issue either internal or power ground.

hey i used the red one in my car and it works. at least that's the color of the wire in the harness. i'm betting the power lead for the antenna has hardly any power handling abilities. give the amp 12V from the distribution block to the remote turn on and that will tell you if the turn on is even the issue.
but if the amp just looks like it's barely on, this sounds more like the only reason it's on is because it's grounding out through your RCA's. thus bad ground. my kicker did that when the wire came loose. reground and then see how it is

I regrounded in the trunk and change fuse types from the blade to the glass cylinder type. After that fuse change everything works fine. The fuse wasn't blown, but had some burn marks on the blades. When I would volt it the voltage would climb very slowly or not at all.

I have 2 Xtant 1000 x 1 RMS and 1 Diamond audio amps, 2 LED voltage displays for caps, and power for a satelite receiver, all running off of my antenna power lead.... Works fine, no problem, Mystic and I put it in....
We ran all that off your power antenna lead? I thought you had wired that to your remote lead? It should shut off when you put a CD in then...odd. Oh well, at least it works
On a side note, who the hell listens to AM radio?
