What aftermarket tweeters fit in the stock pods?

hi, I have the stock tweeters in my coupe but i would like to change them to aftermarket ones.

i want to put the tweeters in the stock pods but i heard some tweeters wont fit in there.

eg. i know a guy who had to glue in his Alpine tweeters because the aftermarket ones didnt fit properly

is it possible to have aftermarket tweeters in the pods and also use the stock tweeter grilles too?

also, can some people tell me what brand/model component sets fit into the civic w/ out major mods? (i want the speaker to fit into the door without cutting away at the door)

I think its best to drill a hole on the door panel and flush mount the tweeter......looks much cleaner. Ill take pics of my tweeters later today.

i disagree..i already have the stock tweeters...

i think it'll look the cleanest if i'm able to stick some aftermarket tweeters into the stock pods and then put the stock tweeter grilles on too...

i think it'll look dumb if i have tweeters on the doors then empy tweeter pods where the mirrors are...

You can get lx covers for the mirrors and flush mount the aftermarket tweeters on the door panel.

The grill on the OEM tweet is part of the tweet, it doesnt come off. MB Quart tweeters fit quite well in the OEM pod, but the speaker is a serious pain to get into the door.

I couldn't agree more! It is amazing how easy the tweet fits, but the woofer was a *****!

My old Quart tweeter with my grill crooked...

You just need the right size screw and a spacer for those tweets...i also have glued polk tweets into the pod before.

My Alpine Type-R components fit perfecty. You may need to shave the tweeter pod a little to get it to fit, but otherwise a clean install.

shave the tweeter pod? you mean the inside of the pod?

also, did you have to glue the tweeter into the pod?

how about the 6.5" speaker? did it fit without having to cut apart the door? did the magnet clear the window? i heard that some magnets will hit the window...

i haven't installed my 5 1/2's yet, but i heard that you have to make spacers b/n the woofer and mounting plate in the door to make clearance for the window.

looks really nice but i think they'll be too expensive for me because i dont know any places here that sell that stuff...

if import them, it'll cost an arm and a leg

btw, as for spacers for Alpine Type R 6.5" speakers, how thick does the spacer have to be? i've already swapped the fronts with coaxials and i noticed that spacers have to be used with any aftermarket speaker. the oem ones are really weird clip ons..

Sorry bro, didnt make that clear. Yes I had to cut that part of the pod where the OEM tweeter would screw into... Actually looking at it, it fit perfectly fine. Maybe 1 cm gap or less between the tweeter and pod, but otherwise looks stock... No glue involved. I was able to fit it just fine...

As for the 6.5" woofer, I had to use a 1" or 1/2" spacer?? Cant remember. Windows are fine. The only problem I ran into was my drivers side panel towards the bottom. It was somewhat sticking out like a few cm's so I just went to Home Depot for some screws and screwed the panel in. (Sorry if I don't make sense.... I cant really describe it.)... It was towards the bottom, so the screw is away from anyone's view...

I'll take pics if I ever get batteries for my digi cam...

does any one have pics of tweeters in a sedan 2001+. i have some pioneer tweeter i want to install but need a good spot. i was thinking of drilling two holes one for the wires and the mounting screw and washer to hold the tweeter. i want to mount it on the plastic cover that covers the side mirrors. but do they need to be angled?

eeek...if you were a perfectionist, it would soooo bug you to have an extra screw where there's not supposed to be one

1cm gap??? do you mean 1mm gap?

anyways, i'm almost sure i'll be getting the type r comps. i have most of my installation figured out except for the tweeter..

a friend wasn't able to make his type r tweeter to fit even when he gutted the insides of the sailpod.... he said the plastic part, that's used for clipping onto the door, was in teh way and prevented him from getting the tweeter into the pod

he ended spending a ton of cash on a separate set of tweeters...

I'll echo mystics post - Boston 6.5 pro comps for my fronts. woofers required mod to get in the door, but the tweeter fits nice and snug into the sail panels with no problems.

turbo..... to get the type r tweeter to fit, you need to rip apart the part where the screw goes in because that blocks the tweeter from getting in..... Besides that you also need to use a heat gun, which I forgot to mention in my post before... Melted the SOB's which was what made it stick to the tweeter pod. Not visible at all and looks OEM.

And yes, I meant a 1mm gap... Not noticeable at all, but if your a perfectionist you'll notice it.

I no longer have the vic, but have the pods with the type r tweeters still installed on it. I have my digi cam so if you want I can take a pic of it?

icic...pics would be great....

i'd like to see pics of the back part of the pod and the 1mm gap

btw, i can just hot glue the tweeter to the pod instead of using a heatgun, right?

Hey Turbo.... Just took some pics right now and have uploaded them in my Member's Ride... Not the greatest quality pics, but they should help you out.

As far as hot glue goes, I'm sure it would work fine... The problem I had with using the heat gun is... well I cant take the tweets out now and are stuck to the tweet pod forever! :amnit:: I wanted to install these comps on my RSX but can't now... Oh well...

Let me know if you need some more help.

Thought about that.... But lots of Vic Coupes in my area so I'll eventually sell it to one of these owners for cheap.

Good luck with your tweets. Post pics when you get em done.
