Info/PS2 wanted

I'm wanting to start a big project. I want to pull apart a playstation 2 and put it in my car. but i'm wanting to mount the controller ports and buttons in the dash, and maybe even the disk tray.

first of all, does anyone know any sites about extending internal ps2 wires?

second, does anyone have an old ps2 they want to get rid of at a really good price, or even a non-functional one?

i appreciate your help

when we do something liek this, we usually use extension coords that are available to nearly every system, that way we can put the system (like a gamecube or dreamcast) in the rear armrest, where the top is only accessible. then we use the extensions to put the controller ports wherever we want, like the back of the center console.

all without cutting!

thats what id do

power and reset are easy. its the controller thats hard. from an extending wires point of view.

they are just switches! so its supereasy to go to radioshack and get yoru on/off switch and a couple momentary pushbutton switches and just tap into the board, and run the small wires out the side of the case, through an air vent.

no cutting required, just solder them onto the board, you dont even have to remove the existing power switches!

i took apart a PS2 time ago.. system is really complicated..

wires can get messed too easy.. i suggest that you keep the thing in 1 piece.

i have a pair of empty PS2 cases around.. if you pay shipping from mexico ill give em for cheap

The disk drive probably just uses a standard ribbon cable that you could buy at any computer store.

i am planning on doing this but with an xbox.....although i think i found a better place to mount it. Under the glove where taht bulky black thing is. Pop it out and create a storage unit our of fiberglass, wood or plexy. and then carpet it or do whatever u want with it. Not only should it leave some room for the passenger to slide there feet under....but the ac vent is right there so u can keep it nice and cool.

I started a project with my Ps2 custom fitting it into the coin holder by the e-brake. It fit so well and would only need some resin to fill in the gaps.

It looked so hot in that postion, but it would not read a disk in that postion. Take that factor into account that you might have a really nice clean install, but the Ps2 won't be able to read a disk if it is in funny postion.
