Finished box today, and put a hole in my sub. I SUCK
Well the carpet and grill came today so I was able to finish the box I made. However when I was putting everything back together the drill slipped and put a small hole in the rubber around the sub. I’m pretty pissed but what can I do. It doesn’t sound bad though; my fried said it sounds the same. So I don’t know what to do.

junk it...........there is nothing u can do. The hole will only get bigger after u keep playing it.
When i am drilling the screws for mounting the sub, i always cup my hand around the screw and drill, so in case i do slip, my hand will stop it.

yeah, holes in the rubber surround part are fine. If you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself, there are shops that do it. Last year we took a pair of home theater loudspeakers that had HUUGE holes in that part of the woofers to a guy who re-did that surround part. It might not sound quite as good, but better than ditching the speaker.

You can use sillicon or anything similiar but dont put too much or use a product that is very thick and heavy since this will change the center of gravity of the cone and change the sound.

another good investment for future reference would be one of the magnetic screw guides. they have a slider thing that you slide down over the screw to keep it from wobbling, and keep it aligned straight. that could help in keeping the screw/bit from finding an undesired resting place. i use them all the time, and they work great. i think they are available in a kit with different bits for like 8 bucks.

Or do it the right way Drill the correct size hole Tap it and then you dont have to worry about messing up cause the screw will go right in with out the need of a power tool.
what I do is to mark the holes with sharpie while the sub is on. Then take the sub AWAY from my workspace, and then do the drilling. I do pilot holes, then use a drill to thread the screws all the way in, then back out. Then I bring the sub back over and the holes are already made and threaded and everything. No danger to the sub, unless my sharpie slips.
there were already holes there already it was my own stupidity. Anyway i fixed it today, I work at a frame shop and we use this silicone adhesive/ sealant. Its strong stuff we use it to mount objects on to mat board in shadow boxes. So I used a little on both sides, so i should be all set.
yeah JL's are awesome, right? I have a JL 15w0 sitting in my room waiting for my JBL amp to arrive; i cant wait. It's gonna be a hell of a lot better sounding than my Sony and with 2 8" Audiobahns.
