Anyone have sub(s) in their back seat?
I am thinking fo doing a custom setup and try, somehow, to get a 12" Kicker L7 in my backseat. I think it would be cool to have it right in the middle of the rear bench but I have yet to find anyone with something similar done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I believe the gas tank is right under the middle of the rear seat? If this is true then I'm not sure if you'd be able to do what your looking to do. Or do you mean remove the pad and have a sub inplace of the middle backseat?

I have seen it done but you gotta realize that it's not easy. 1 factor you have to look at is "Do you have enough air space?" And 2 it's alot of work and fabrication but it can be done and it has been done.
realistically its not a quick design for our cars. the padding is what holds the seat shape, and there is no plate in the back, only a grid.
you are looking at a custom fabrication from scratch, more or less.
When I put subwoofers in my back seat, I went the easy route, and gutted the entire back end and rebuilt it from scratch. I didnt have to worry about messing up any interior paneling, or how to match up to it. Just started afresh and redesigned the back.
realistically, youd have to build a new seatback. Perhaps a better idea would be to build a box that screwed to the back of the seat and rearfired, you could still fold your seat down and the woofer would upfire in the cabin, it would turn out really interesting for a project.
thats about the easiest way I know of to do something similar to that.

ive thought about this, the easiest way I can think of to do it is to convert bucket seats or make my own so id have the space.
what about ditching the 40 side of yoru 60/40 seat and doing a box there? thats about the lowest amount of modification youd have to do, to accomplish it

i was jsut typing a second answer, when i remembered that tis all moot. upfiring in our civics causes massive cancellations in the cabin, its better not to do it.
inside the cabin, the best places to fire a subwoofer is directly at the rear glass (in or in front of the rear deck) or down fire. thats the reason the subwoofers in my car downfire.

trash= 4.7dB easily
damn that looks like 8 gauge wire on the subs too. i'm guessing not much overkill either.
what did you have behind the ebrake console in that first picture? i've wondered if a 8" sub, or maybe 6.5", in cabin would be better than a pair of midbasses in the rear deck.

pair of kodas in an isobaric DCTT enclosure, i havent bought the plexi yet.
no, its not better than midbass upfront, but its better than losing the legroom, right? my personal opinion is that its better than midbass in the rear deck, but anyone using this idea would lose the ability to comfortably house two passengers in the back, much less three. as you can see i dont have that problem
and the 8 gauge wire is most definitely just for show

What size are they man? You have a Coupe right? I have a Sedan, maybe that's why having the subs fire inwards sounds fine? Although I haven't tried having them fire towards the rear of the car. Maybe I will get the more bass I'm looking for. I like how it sounds, but I want more!!!
DJPark:
I'd think facing the subs to the rear would be louder than having them facing into the cabin. Hard to explain but its usually true.
Experiment w/ the positioning. It can make a huge difference.
Personally I have really grown to love downfiring setups. Really shakes the car ... heh heh.

dam whiterabbit nice system. Making a fiberglass box at the moment. Just streched the fliece over the rings and put resin and some of the first layers of glass down. Ima make a separate thread to show all the ice junkies
I had called JL and they told me that it would be best to have the subs aimed towards the rear seat.
WhiteRabbit,
Nice find on teh site. Although if you have the sub box in the back of the trunk (I assume they mean closest to the back of the car) then there is a great potential for damage if rearended. If my box was there it would of been destroyed when I got hit... I guess if the car is just for show then it would be good though.

I feel that in no way can JL advise you on where to face a sub. Every car is different and the only real way to know is to try it. I will tell you this though, in 80% of cars, the subs will sound better facing the rear vs the seats.
The subs will sound louder with the rear end of the sub facing the trunk, but if you don't want ppl outside to hear your bass leave it like you have it now with the sub rear facing ur back seats.
How does the direction of the sub affect what people hear outside? I don't believe that one. Did you look at that website? It explains a lot and totally goes along w/ my personal experiences in car audio.
