What should I do?

What are your opinions? OK, a few weeks ago one of my component speakers went and I am faced with having to get new ones. Do I get new ones that are decent/ cheepo under $300 that are not powered by an amp (only headunit alpine) or do I splurge on a nicer setup? I've been offered from a guy here in CT (owns a shop) that he can replace my focal 165v's with the 165v2's along with a decent amp (crown, very similar to JL's) for $700 installed. Do you think this is a good deal? I'm debating cause, yes I do have the money, but it is a lot. I also hope that in maybe two years or so this might be worth taking out and putting into a new car, if I can ever afford one. Opinions are appreciated.

it may be a good deal, but shop around. if you like your focals and don't care about trying something different, that's cool too.

but you aren't married to speakers or brands. play the field if you want. you have a ton of choices. that is a lot of cash for a front stage... IMO.

you could get those speakers and an amp for a bit less than that

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12970

249 for v2's

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PHOT3002
210 for a phoenix gold amp

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12399

179 for an alpine

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=13474

189 for an orion

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=11716

199 for a ppi

none of those setups put you over 450-460 in parts, nd its reputable dealers with warranties.

the install you could do yourself for dirt, of you could get it at a shop for some money

regardless, i doubt it would run you more than 600 if done at a shop, or 500 if done yourself

Id go with a set of JL Audio XR Components. They sounds comparable to focals in my opinion and you can get them off ebay for around $200. As for the amplifier, just get a decent 2 channel amplifier, I have a HiFonics ZX6000 which cost me less than $200 off ebay. Overall, this setup has been great for me. Just a word of advice with this setup, unless you really know how to tune your amplifier, get a professional to do it. I didn't know what I was doing and with this amplifier, blew out like 2 sets of midwoofers until I got a professional to tune it.

they do have harsh tweeters - but the crossover can be adjusted (to an extent) to reduce the sound level.

My front stage cost me $1100....and thats with discounts from full retail price. But I only buy at a shop. I like factory warranties.

JSWhaler: If you want, get your stuff online, come up to my place again, and i'll give you a hand with installing it. It wouldent take more than a couple hours to throw everything in.

I got ripped compared to internet pricing...but I got substantial discounts off retail cost....so it's really not that bad. I paid very little for my amp...only about $50 more than what it was on ebay for at the time.
