Grey Pop Up ads (how to stop em)
Systems Effected:
windows 2000, 2k3, XP
Systems not effected:
win 98, 95
Okay let me explain what those are and what they are being used for / what they were intended for.
Microsoft integrated a worldwide message system built into windows (try it! go to command prompt and type
Net Send (ip address or local computer name) Message
ex:
Net Send 192.168.1.100 Hey Man!
Well it was intended for use inside company networks to send short messages that would popup on the screen.
Naturally people develope data miners that gather ip addresses from innocent surfers and before you know it you're on the list of net send spam.
guess it only takes one apple to spoil the whole bunch.
