Closing the door, and getting SHOCKED!
Closing the door, and getting SHOCKED!
I think I have severe electrical damage in my car.
First it started with 1 of my 2 RF He2 subs just stopped working. One day it just stopped working? Next the rear 6x9's just stopped working too...
Everytime I turn the car off and put my hand on the door to close it I get an electrical shock. This happens EVERY time I shut my door.
The one sub hits hard and fine, while my 6.5 front speakers work good two. Ps2 and TV screen work well, as with my pionner deck.
I have heard similar complaints from other friends that 1 sub will just stop working in a box of two 12's.
Any suggestions?

i've seen threads about the shocking. mine does too bad, but it's mostly just the winter dryness. you know how you aren't supposed to go back in your car when refuelling? yeah, same thing, it's the static. i strongly doubt this is related to your other stuff going bad. sorry to be a downer...
it was hard to search for the threads about this stuff, but here's what i got for ya:

Mine's been doing that recently too, I got shocked so bad the other day my hand went numb and my wrist hurt, heh, but I don't have much in terms of ICE..I figure it's just the weather here or something, and my fuzzy blonde hair maybe, but who knows, like Prod said, it may be a Honda thing.

My car shocked me for the longest time...and it stopped one day...I figured out it was because of my angel eye eurolights that I did not ground...I basically never hooked up the angel eye...so the positive and negative leads were just hanging in the trunk...would shock the ish out of me, especially when it was cold and dry....when i took 'em out it went away.

The shock is normal. I get it every time, but lately it seems like I don't. Maybe because I don't touch the metal.
Sounds like your car has a grounding problem if subs are going out. You probably shaved the spots where the ground is, but you my want to get a ground wire kit for the engine bay. It helps stabilize the energy if there is a faulty ground elsewhere.

it's because it's winter. There's something about driving your car through the winter air that builds up a static charge on the body. I get it too.. on every car I drive. There's probably nothing wrong with your car, it's just static. You wouldn't feel 12 volts anyway. You could put your tongue between your amp ground wire and the body and not feel it.

Deja Vu!!!
I always get shocked also, started when I got my woofers and amp installed last January. It died down this past summer now its started again.
What I do is anticipate the shock now. I'll purposely rub my wrist on the door frame and go ahead and get it over with. Might as well suck it up since I dont know how to get rid of it.

the shock depends on resistance. water (or spit) lowers resistance, upping current (or pain).
this is why we don't put hairdryers in bathtubs. but live to tell when we stick our finger in the outlet (provided it's not too sweaty).
let's not argue about getting shocked. my tongue was 150k-200k ohms, that would put at most .08mA of current through my tongue. most people start feeling a shock at .1mA. so it would be a minor tingle/annoyance.

About getting shocked on the way out... I used to get shocked all the time as well, but now when I get out of my car and I'm wearing jeans I just press my leg against the bottom of car as I step out (if that makes sense) and that has taken away my shocking problem.

Similarly, when you drag your feet across a carpeted room on a cold winter's
day, you're dislodging electrons from the surface of the rug which you're
inadvertently carrying with you. Since you're now negatively charged, as you
go to open the door, youdischargeyour electrons to the conducting metal
****.

regardless, you cant get shocked by only touching the metal on the car if its the amp because youd need to be touching something of positive current as well.
i can guarantee you 100% its static.
notice its related to the weather?
maybe if he was touching the car metal while grabbing the + post on the battery then it would be the amps, but if youre touching one source its static.

when I had my battery installed at circuit city and had them re-wire my terminals (added tsunami terminals) they added their own ground, the have the stock ground and another one they added it looks nice, i did however notice that i havnt been shocked, its only been 2 days since that was done so i dont know for sure that im not gonna get shocked, but i too had the static problem, might still but as of now i dont think i do my dad's 2002 civic sedan has the same static shock problem, i hope mine is cured! but thats just my 2 cents it could b fixed by the extra ground they added

thats the original pic

i did a little photoshop work to point it out since the original is a little dark.

OKAY, I have another question...
What is it with just one sub not working? It happened on my car, and recently a friends car.
It's not like its even blown? One sub just mysteriously stops working...

if you have cloth seats it your car, you will get shocked every time you get out guarunteed, it does it in my car and in all my pass cars, but only in winter cuz your car is dryer, in summer it is more humid and it decreases amount of shockability.
i took electronics classes for two years and i am a certified electronics service technician by chatahoochee technical college here in georgia ababy!!! haha those classes were worthless.

Seriously, you can set yourself and your car on fire while fueling up. Try shocking yourself before you start gasing up. If you touch anything near the gas cap, be careful... I have seen videos and **** can go into flames.
For the one who hater their car, this is a good idea for insurance money
... but then you'll need health insurance too. lol
I get shocked like hell during the winter time. During the summer, it's ok. And hell, my car is basically stock.

Try squirting some liquid fabric softener on your cloth seats during the winter (use an old squirt bottle). Little bit goes a long way. If you choose not to use this simple technique once every few days (once a week is usually enough), there is always the technique of grabbing the car door (the metal parts ok) with your bare hand and never let go when you put your feet on the ground. If you don't let go of the metal parts of the door, you won't notice the static because it goes out through the door your are touching instead of building up and nailing you all at once.
12V batteries do not cause a shock unless you use a wrench or screwdriver across the positive and negative sides of the battery at the same time, and that's more of an explosion that shocks you (scares the crap outta you) that an electrical kind of shock. If you have a tongue that wants to experiment, and are able, try showing your ability to the ladies instead of wasting it on batteries. You'll be SHOCKED at the response.
Really, the spritz of fabric softener will do the trick. We use it at work on our office chairs to save computers and keyboards. It's cheaper and easier than trying to get everyone to wear those silly wrist ground strap things.

if your clothing can conduct static then plastic can too.
also glass, touch your tv screen after you turn it off after a long period
lotsa things can conduct static electricity
EDIT: conduct is the wrong wird since its not actually conducting
the static just kinda hangs out on the surface
