why bulb filters don't work
I know alot of you have been trying to change your gauge lights to blue, so I thought I'd explain why we've been having such low success.
Take an incandescent bulb, like the ones in your car for backlight. Then try to put a blue condom over it. What do you get? A dim, greenish light. Then take some red lens repair tape and put that in front of it. What happens? You get a bright red light. There is a very simple reason for this. Incandescent bulbs give off most of their light near the infrared/visible end of the color spectrum. There is very little blue given off by the bulb to begin with. This is why condoms and painted bulbs will never give you a nice blue color that is bright.
