Ok, so I've been having some issues with a rattling sound coming from my passenger side component (Focal 165V, larger/ bass speaker). For a quick fix I slapped some dynamat around the area with no success. I went over to the local audio place and was told that the coil is blown/ speaker is gone. When I got these speakers put in a little over a year ago (1 year warranty) they sounded great and I had no problems. I am running them off my deck 60 watts. This guy who I trust said that they should have told you that you need to run them via an amp cause they want soo much more power going through them, thus resulting in their demise.
Now what should I do??? I want to do it the right way, but am strapped for $$$. The speakers are not under warranty, but I'm gonna still try contacting the place that installed them (out of state), or do you think it is better to contact a Focal dealer in the state and see what they can do?? Any kind of advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, you can try to get them replaced under warranty, some shops will fake a receipt to get it covered for ya. Your HU is actually putting out about 15 watts RMS, not 60 like it says-thats a peak rating which the HU will never put out. So yes, you are underpowering them; I think those want 100 watts RMS.
