R1 Coilovers/Koni's

I bought a set of R1 Sleeved coilovers through x3racing.com...i know they're not some crazy expensive, big brand name coilovers but im planning to install koni struts and using these coilovers to complete my suspension. Just wondering if anyone else has bought this type of coilover and how they might work with koni's. I dont want to waste my time/money and something that isnt going to work right. If this is a bad idea, please tell me cause my other option is to just turn around and sell these coilovers and buy the neuspeed race springs. I just want a low, even drop with a decent ride. (keep in mind im putting the Konis in either way)

just because you have good shocks doesnt mean you'll have a good ride... i personally wouldnt use sleeved coilovers. i would rather either get springs for stock shocks or if i do decide to go with the coilover route get full coilovers.
people had problem with sleeved coilovers and konis. the konis just werent designed to work with sleeved coils and what happens is the rear clip breaks off. i'm not saying its going to happen to you but i would rather not take my chances...

FYI Ground Control coilovers are the only sleeve coilovers that a designed to fit Koni struts. More than likely the R1 coilovers will not fit around the Koni struts. And the perches on the Koni struts are designed to be used with ground control coilovers. So if you want to go that route, get Gound Control coilovers. Otherwise I know that neuspeed race springs go great with Koni struts. Then again for the same amount of money you are going to spend on Koni struts and coilovers, you might want to think about get a true set of coilovers.

Yes r-1s do fit on konis, and ride quit nice to. GC's and R-1's have the same exact sleeve diameter. I have said this before, R-1's are not that bad, IF your using konis. They have a softer spring rate than GC's, and rides more like stock than GC's and Konis. Most everyone who has used R-1's used them on stock struts, and since the springs are softer, it would make the stock struts bottom out, but with konis very soft ride, since the struts are stiffer.

People have also had problems with clunking with r-1's why, because the rubber rings that hold the sleeve in place arent the best quality, which causes the sleeve to move around..................solution.................. .........wrap a couple layers of duct tape around the strut....then install the rubber rings, then place the sleeve over that, might be a tight fit, but will eliminate any banging clanking noises from the front.

Dont listen to these people who only use expensive name brands like GC, who have never even ridin on a set of r-1's that are used with konis.

great like i really wanted softer.. ground controls are soft enough... why would anyone want a soft ride with a lowered suspension...
i had neuspeed sports then i had ground controls.. i missed the stiff suspension the sports offered me so i went back and got neuspeed race...

i dont care what brand of sleeve coilover u use its going to be CRAP!!!! u can spend 300 to 50 dollars on sleeve coilover's and there still going to be garbage! ive gone trew who know's how many setup's. and allways the same result with sleeve coilover's. if u go lower than 2in" ur **** is going to bounce and suck ***! so yes ur best bet would be to go TRUE coilover or some good spring's. so to save u a huge! headace down the line sell thoes garbage *** no name coilover's and get ur self a good pair of springs with ur koni's and ull be good to go.

Dizzle- From what I have read and have been told, Ground Control Coilovers are the only ones made to fit Koni Struts. Yes R1s could be the same size as GC, but there is two different sizes. GC makes a sleeve bigger to fit the Koni Struts. Thats why if you buy GC coilovers you will have an option to buy one that the sleeves are bigger to fit Konis. Are you sure that the R1s are the same size as the bigger GC coilovers that are made for the Konis? Not trying to be a d*ck here, I'm just curious.
