What do you want out of it? Daily driver? drag car? autox? Luggage space?? We can't tell you what to buy unless you tell us why you want a new car.

if i can find a good cheap 240sx, i would, but its kinda hard to find a used one for sale at all.. so i really dont know how much they sell for..
if it were cheaper than 5k, i'd put the rest of the money into a SR20DET swap fund

well...Depends on the situation.. Would u be buying it just for fun? or would u be selling your current car and getting a used car?
If u want it for fun, id save the $....
If u want to sell your car and buy a used one... then idk

CRXs do pretty good. Light, nimble, and have a short wheel base.
they make pretty good CSP cars (C-Street Prepaired) Not sure how well they do any more in the Stock classes. Might be a good chassis for SM2 (Street Modified 2 seater)
Got to drive my friends CRX last autocross, he runs in D-Modified. Fun car, but has a mean case of throttle lift oversteer....... I ended up spining it.

And as far as the swap being expensive, that's not true at all. You can pick up a low mileage(30,000mi) SR20DET for about $1500. As long as you do the swap yourself that's pretty cheap. I've done this twice already.

Domestic
---------------
Daily Driver: Dodge Stealth
Drag Strip: turbocharged 5.0 mustang (yes it can be done for under 5K) or fixed up stealth
Autocross: Neon ACR (or what ever that one is called)
Drift Machine: ummm
Import
-----------
Daily Driver: 1st gen Eclipse GSX or an Integra
Drag Strip: 1st gen Eclipse GSX, EG6 w/turbo B18B or 240SX
Autocross: EG6,CRX or Miata
Drift Machine: 240SX or AE86
BTW my idea of a daily driver is something that gets good mileage, low maintence but still has a little pep to it, nothing horribly slow like an Insight.

Oh and to the kid that said he'd buy a 5.0 and supercharge it. It's going to cost you more then 5 grand to do this. Even if you buy the stang for like $1200, it will be beat to hell with high mileage and won't be able to handle the boost. You'd have to rebuild the motor and it would put you well over the $5000 mark. I am stating this due to my experiences with mustangs.
