Just a thought.
Sure if they look at our car registeration, we're stuck paying a ticket, but a "Hybrid" emblem might stop a cop from pulling us over.

Uhhhh..correct me if I'm wrong but using the car pool lane has nothing to do with how your car looks like.

1 Driver + 1 Passenger = 2 people right?
That's good enough to get in the HOV lane over here.

maybe in san jose hybrids are allowed as well. In texas all you need is one passenger to get in the hov lane. They are about to pass a law letting hybrid cars in that lane as well.

If it's that important to get into the lane then try it. I say slap that label on there and go for it. If a cop does pull you over, play stupid. Say something like "Oh that label was on the car when I bought it... you mean this car isn't a hybrid?!?!"

Yes, I get stuck in traffic going to work and when I leave work for a good 20 minutes on a freeway that usually takes about 7 minutes to get through with no traffic.
The carpool lane is empty.. and I'm really tempted to do this... let me do some more research and think about this.

i bet you it would work. there are only a few hybrid vehicles on the road right now, and i guarantee officers know what each one looks like! I would DEFINATELY try it (we don't have carpool lanes in Rochester) As long as you had a sedan I think it would work, if you had the hybrid front it would be even better! great idea.

Just to clarify something for all your California members...
Driving in the HOV (Carpool lane) is illegal for Hybrids. Only vehicles that are ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicles) which inlude ONLY completely electric and also CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) are legal to drive solo in that lane. First, owners must obtain a sticker from the state to put on their bumper too!
No matter what someone may tell you, Hybrids with solo occupants may NOT drive HOV.
My 04 Hybrid is on the way to me from Japan... I am well versed in this area of law :-)

i wanted one so bad when they first came out. i wanted to rip the engine out, and drop a GSR or a K-series engine in. then when you pull up to someone and they start pointing and laughing at your car, drop the clutch and tear *** away!!
then i looked at the sticker price....$18,000!! that's a lot, just to *** with people

a hybrid still wont go... even though its SULEV, only ZERO emission vehicles..
so the Civic GX can drive in carpool lane.
and dont forget bikes can too.
