OK, the title might be a little misleading. I am painting all the trim in my car red to match the exterior, and plan to paint all the top of the center console. If you dont know what I mean, check out this website and lick on the 'civic 2002 2dr' Its all that center stuff...the piece that covers the cupholders, goes around the shifter, and around the e-brake. My question is..what should I do with that little silver trim piece on the BOTTOM of the shift boot? If I leave it, it will look gay because I'm painting all the other silver parts. If I paint it red, I think it will look gay also because of the changes in texture between the two surfaces right next to eachother. Should I paint it black? Can I just take it off? Thanks.
i painted mine a different colour. You cant just leave it off cuz it somewhat covers the bottom of the shift boot. Id paint it black if i were you. Black and red always look nice together. Its pretty easy to get out too, so dont worry about that. Good luck

ok, i think i'll paint it black. THere arent any black painted plastic pieces near it, so the difference in blacks wont be noticeable. I like the SF turbo fund you got....a little ways to go there
Not that I have any room to talk. My 'sf turbo fund' is also called by 'life savings'

yah just paint it black...make it simple.
As for the fund!!! hahah yah it is pretty measly, but i figure the price of the kit will drop after a little bit of time! Oh well I gotta start somewere right?
anyways good luck with the painting...be patient...thats all i can say!!

i dont think the kit price will drop though...ever. Although, SF is coming out with a better kit, so that might drop it some. I talked to them, and it was pretty much that the demand is so high for the kit that they are charging as much as they want. Anyways, Im going to wait a while before painting the center console; going to see how the other red painted pieces hold up, scratch wise. If they seem durable, then I'm doing it. It sucks, because it's my dad's car, and he has to OK everything I do to it...and he might not let me get a turbo kit

I forget exactly, but I think that it's Omega Red enamel spray paint, and Dulpi-Color sandable white primer. The red matches my exterior pretty well, but I use EXTEREMELY thick coats on both coats of the primer and all 3 of the paint. Don't know how durable it is yet; im going to wait and see how my other painted trim holds up (door latch trim; side vents; center stereo surround; power windows trim), and then I'll decide whether I want to paint the whole center console or not, because if the paint scratches relatively easily, the center will look like **** after a while.
yah make sure you take you're time on the painting...thats the best thing you can do for yourself. You might wanna try and find a clearcoat also o protect the paint from chips and ****.
As for the sf kit, man they hafta bring it down eventually...byt the time i have enough money to get it the demand will have dropped...and plus all the problems will be fixed! But i want one now so badly.

me too. updated SF fund yaaay! As for the clearcoat, I tried that. I let the paint dry for 10 HOURS and then applied the clearcoat, and the stuff like mixed with the paint. It was nasty. I had to scrub it with Methyl Ethyl Ketone to get it off. It was whitish red and all wrinkly...im talking to someone from the clearcoat's company about it; the clearcoat was apparently incompatable with the paint, so I need to find a coat that works.
hahaha dayum ur killing me on the fund!! **** son!
yah i had the same problem...the clear coat would like dissolve the paint right? You hafta make sure the clearcoat is compatible...i got testors model clearcoat and that worked okay...but its still not perfect...im just too lazy to sand it again.

i think i'll paint like a part of some other plastic device that doesnt matter if it gets messed up, then I'll just buy some other clearcoat and see if it works. As for the fund, every time I earn $1, it goes towards my turbo. Ive spend like $10 in the past month, and that was on paint. Also selling a bunch of crap.
just keep going stong! Dont buy other stupid stuff for you're ride!! Thats the problem...i always waste money on little things that all add up...but not that i have my fund its over...no more horsing around!
good luck with the turbo and the paint!
