i got my civic and it says i gotta change the oil when i get to 20550 im on my 20990.
how many miles can i go over with out damage my motor?!

btw, when did you have it dont last? i get mine done about every 5000+ - .... a little wont make a big differences, just dont be hard on it.

I like to do it as often as every 3000 miles. My dealership sends me coupons for differents services every 3-4 months; their timing's pretty accurate because I usually drive more than 3000 miles in that much time. I remember, they gave me this static-cling reminder sticker in the corner of my windshield, with the recommended date/mileage of the nedt appointment. I wiped the pen ink off with windex by accident, so I over drove for about 2000 miles. But then I got a new coupon flyer in the mail, so I started going by that.

I read on this site that 3000 is a good time, but 5000 is just the same since the oil doesn't really change any more between that. But too much mileage on the same oil will have bad effects.




I think it's just me, but after an oil change my car is more 'quiet'. The last oil I got stopped my car from making this weird low humming noise. It sounded like the engine accelerating, but it was more of an echo (this sound was separate from the sound of the engine accelerating and only started after a few seconds of acceleration).

You should do it on schedule, but it isn't going to hurt it if you're 400 over and you change it every 3K miles.

5k is about the max.

The recommended service is actually every 10K miles for the new civics! I wouldn't go past 4K on mine, though.

my dealer said 7k mile intervals, but i do my own changes and do them at about 3,500 to 4k miles just because its a small price to pay to maintain the car.

i do mine every 5k miles cuz i'm using amsoil
