Hey all,
Im planning out what im going to spend on my car, and it looks like the SF turbo kit. I plan to get that, the Random Technology high-flow catalytic converter, and a new cat-back exhaust. The only problem is, there are so many of them. I want a full cat-back, not just a new muffler, but I want one that sounds good. Not too quiet, but not extremely ricer-like, if you know what I mean. Also, I am very interested in the HP gains, so that is important too. What do you recommend? I'm just looking for people opinions on what would be the best, knowing my concerns.
Thanks in advance

dunno if there is a premade 2.5" catback for our cars... if your going turbo please do use at least 2.5"
how much is the muffler shop going to charge you to custom pipe it anyways? cause the premade ones are ~500 (good ones at least)

Although, I have been thinking and looking around lately. I have heard that the Tsudo N1 is all right, and its only $299. For $300, as compared to the $650, it cant be that bad, right?

I wouldnt go with 2.5 inch piping, I would go with 2.25 inch piping, anything higher, you will lose horsepower, besides our car is a 4 cylinder, SOHC, why would you need 2.5 piping, unless you are running a turbo, than that would be ok, get 2.25 inch.

i am going to run a turbo...check the sig. So I guess my final question is: is getting custom exhaust piping to an a'pexi n1 muffler really worth $650 (with lifetime warranty), when I could get a tsudo n1 cat-back for $300 (with 1 year warranty)?
the n1, atleast the one i heard on our vics, was VERY loud, apexi n1's have some serious dB's to em... i love the tanabe myself, SRM, but the greddy sounds very nice on our cars, and i've heard from many people that have the SF kit that the tanabe is the best exhaust w/ it, restricts the least and sounds the best...
my $.02

OK. I think im going to go for the Tanabe Hyper Medallion. It seems to be good quality, people here say its has good HP gains and sound, and it states that it is designed for mid-range power, which is really what I want since this is for my fun-to-drive-around-town car.

i just listened to the tanabe rspec on the exhaust clips, and it sounds real nice. Where can I buy the rspec? I have only been able to find the Hyper Medallion, Racing Medallion, and Ultra Medallion.

although u're boosting.. I still dont see the need for 2.5 inch.
does it really flow that much more? i mean.. a 7-8 lb boost is probably the max for a stock d17... so 2.5 inch isn't necessary... a 2.25 will do.
although, I recommend RS*R Exmag (street) or Apexi WS.
both are 60mm pipping.. = 2.368 inches
www.rs-r.com
u can see pics of the exhaust system for our car there.
personally one of my favorites.
its 5 bills though.
thats expensive.
a good muffler and cheaper custom pipping will do too.
but you want tasteful tuned sound. go with the RS*R. they spent some time working on it.
oh yeah. the neuspeed cat-back is tasteful in tip size and exhaust tone/volume too.
but thats expensive too.
Apexi WS is cheap. $300-400 shipped.

how would I know what diameter piping the different cat-back systems come with? THe ones im looking at right now are the tanabe series (hyper medallion mainly), and the rs-r.
usually on the web site of the dealer, it will tell you the mm piping... but you can just ask around, people on here know... tanabe r sped (super racing medallion) is definitely the way to go for turbo's, and circa-x has a great deal on it... like 530 shipped or somethin, very good deal... and tornactive.com also has it for cheap i assume... the hyper medallion won't have the same sound.... i'd suggest super racing for turbo

the super medallion is actually cheaper, but I was attracted to the hyper because it said it was built for medium-range power, and thats what I'll mainly be using. Would it be a lot better to get the super, since it says its for high-end power, and I dont use high-end that much (right now at least
)?
)? if you get your turbo like you say you are, i would suggest the super... because you know you're going to use your high end power a lot... i think the super is more open to air flow and has less back pressure, which is what you want for a turbo... the hyper also doesn't look as good, but it just depends what you want.... for best performance gains, sound, and quality, super it...

sounds like super is it for me...although the rs-r looks pretty good too, for about the same price. I am very concerned with power gains and sound, but dont really care about appearance (i going for a sleeper...partially because I think it will be cool and mainly because i'm poor
). I really like the sound of the tanabe rspec; on the "exhaust clips" sticky, it sounds like it really growls throughout the entire rpm range, but its not shrill and never whines. THats exactly what I want.
