I paid $1.54 exactly two weeks ago and now today i paid $1.99. Thats roughty a 33% increase, all because the power went out back east and Arizona had a oil pipline rupture.

I remember summer of 2001 or 2000....
Local Arco was selling 87 octane for 81 cents a gallon!!!
Anyway, aren't you glad you drive a Civic these days?

There's a Shell station by my house.
For 5 years it has been charging PREMIUM prices for gas
Shell 87 octane $2.45 SELF-SERVE
1 mile away....
Chevron & 76 gas - 87 octane $2.01
Not sure what the owner has been thinking this whole time.
Always 10-20% over the competing gas stations.
edit: Gas prices are high california because we are not going to stop driving. We can't. It's our drug! and they well know it... damnit

Speaking of gas, how many miles per TANK do you average?
My car (02 Auto)
330 miles - Driving hard w/ AC
430 miles - Super slow accelerations / Freeway 70mph or below / AC
Your driving style makes such a HUGEEEEEEE impact in mpg.

Chevron 87...
City: slow accelerations.... (dont let it go past 3000rpm's). Do not lose your temper. lol
Freeway: same deal, but keep it at 65mph and USE CRUISE CONTROL . There is a BIG mpg difference when driving 65 vs 80
The thing with freeway driving is that people tend to not use cruise control. They tend to gas a little and let go.... over and over and that's a total waste of gas. Cruise control is the most effective tool.
Other than that:
1. Spend $40 on a K&N drop-in (which i don't even have yet)
2. Put the correct amount of tire pressure into your tires (stock 30psi). The higher the greater amount of miles you'll be able to travel, but i wouldn't recommend putting more than 32psi on a stock tire. Remember tires increase 4psi after 5 minutes of driving. Let your tires cool for 5 minutes before putting air so it will go to its normal stagnant psi.
3. And last resort, weight reduction. Be shady with your gas! Don't carry passengers (i'm just kidding about this one)

I forgot to mention that 80% of my driving is pure highway.
430 miles per tank is actually average. Not sure how you people get 280miles or below per tank....did you break-in your car hard?
oh yea, you can also change the spark plugs with Denso Iridiums IK16 (I'm using IK20..should be using IK16 since i'm stock)
DEFINETELY helped gas mileage. (roughly +2mpg)

I used to get 300 miles back then. Try using Chevron (Heard techron does help a little bit)
hmm ... according to Denso's site ... we are supposed to use IK20's ...
I get 330 on average ... =\ ... a lot of city, some highway ... never shifting above 3k rpm ... no subs, no spare tire ... I don't get it.
yep ... I really don't get it. I was driving 90 all the way back from Vegas and with that tank I got 410 ... no cruise control ... I tried to get back as fast as I could and my car gets the best gas milage I've ever had ... T_T;;;

That's because it was pure highway driving lol
IK16 - IK20 whatevers, I haven't felt any negative impact with IK20s in my stock engine.
and since we are on topic...
ALWAYS PUT GAS IN THE MORNING OR NIGHT
(Never during the daytime)
Ever noticed how the gas needle goes UP in the daytime or when it's hot?
That's because gas expands.
Gas is sold by volume, not by how dense it is. Gas is denser at night time so you get a few extra drops
Every little counts...

i get at least 350 miles.. and over that.. the more the marrier.. i could probably celebrate if i passed 400 without bein' stranded.. my gas milage is the only thing i can brag about to just about EVERYONE. hahah unless you drive some type of xpensive electric car.. u KNOW?!
but damn alex past 400? i'd make myself an on star button.

Does anyone here use Shell? I've been seeing commercials (by Shell of course) that state that their gasoline gives you better mpg...
gas mileage bragging rights, lol. These are the times when people say, "damn I wish I had a civic!"
