the 1.8t has 180 hp and VW has it underated...it actually has more but they didnt want it to cut off sales from the VR6...both the 1.8t and the VR6 are fast, would be a good race to watch

Stock for stock, the ITR. The GTI gets to 60 in about 7.4, 15.3 in the 1/4. The R skoots to 0-60 in 6.2 with 14.8 in the 1/4. http://www.fast-autos.net/acura/acuraintegra.html

Thing is, it's a lot harder to get the R to do those numbers. You have to have a good launch and quick shifts, bog off the line and you're done. If you bud is a competent driver, he'll win.

well it depends, what are they racing? drag or track? the track the GTI would loose. in the drag strip, its up to the driver.

Well on vw.com they say you can get the 150 1.8t or the 180 1.8t, and a buddy of mine was the 180hp verison, i think its a 00, he bought the new speed ecu chip, it boost the turbo level, and hes pushing around 250 hp, 1 mod and it jumps to 250 hp, and i think next hes going to get the turbo upgrade nuspeed offers, and he would be sitting around 300 im sure, imo, id much rather have the GTI

First off, the ITR is faster, 2nd off its not really a fair race is it? if your buddies got mods that push him to 250hp I mean the integ is prob not sittin on more than 190-200 hp at most unless hes got mods we dont know about, but he better have some cams or watever to keep up b.c. no regular bolt ons will catch a 250hp GTI....3rd-ly the ITR looks way more sporty than the GTI i think...and lastly even with 250hp the ITR is quick especially on freeway, its VTEC is as crazy as the turbo spoolin on that GTI...as long as the ITR guy knows how to stay in VTEC after each gear he should have no problem making this a good race

If the GTI is chipped - GTI.

Stock for stock, I'd put it on the ITR. Later model ITRs were a bit faster. The fastest stock ITR ran a 14.6.

Okay, in late 2002 all VR6's became 200 hp 24v's ... in 2001, VW introduced the 180 hp 1.8t into the Jetta and Golf, the 150 hp version is now only offered in the Beetle.

As far as the race, the ITR will win most likely ... but if the GTi is a 180 hp 1.8 w/ GIAC or APR chip, it'd be real close. A friend of mine has a Jetta programmed to run on 100 oct. by APR and he ran a 14.1 on street tires ... this was a $600 upgrade. A BPU ITR runs about the same 14.1-14.2 as the Jetta, which is about 300 lb. heavier than the GTi ... So, stock for stock, the ITR ... Mod for mod, the GTi takes him ...

And a chip has never put any 1.8t up to 250 hp (but GIAC's v.11 chip for the Aww engine has been dyno'd @ 276 tq). And the Neuspeed kit is a K-04 upgrade which nets about 240 hp and 265 tq w/ intake and full exhaust ... you have to go wth a Stg. 3 kit for #'s even close to 300 hp ...

Welps for starters if you knew anything bout the honda world, not saying you dont but obv. not enuff about Type R's 97 was the first year they came out for USDM, and well the dealers made 2 Type R's that year...the only diff between them was the A/C option which happen to make a difference in weight by a lot in the R's since they are fairly heavy, well here are the facts...

1997 Type R: AC was optional if AC was in car weighed in at 2643, if no AC prob knock off...Ill give benefit of the doubt and say 50 lbs at least...

2001 Type R: AC is standard, weighin in car at 2649, yeah kinda weird huh haha...

All in All, im not saying the old R's will spank the new ones, but they have adv. but also 2001 and 97 same b18c5 motor so same ****, i shuda rephrased my "quote" I didnt mean they are faster, they just have advantage...so yall big babies out thur stop whinin

like how other people said, the Integra Type R would beat the GTI stock to stock, but the GTI would get a big hp gain with a chip and might possibly beat the ITR. from stock, itr goes 14.7sec (sport compact car feb 2000), and the GTI 1.8T goes 15.3sec (Modernracer.com) type R would definetly win. im not too sho bout 20th anniv GTI cuz i dunno bout the stats so ill hav to research dat. if any of u kno holla back

Obviously you know nothing about the ITR.

First of all, a loss of 50lbs is neglible to power and handling. If a 50lb child sat in your car, do you think you'd go noticably slower? It doesn't.

Second of all, the compression was slightly raised in the 98 and ups.

Third of all 2000 and 2001 ITRs were given CTR cams which would affect performance more than a loss of A/C. In which case gives the later models the advantage. Now to say the least the advantage it's not a lot either. However...

It's already been proven that the later models ran faster times. Go to any ITR forums and see what they'll say.

So you say it carries the exact same B18C5 motor (which it doesn't as it went through some slight changes) and weighs approximately 50lbs less from no A/C and has the advantage? I think not.

I don't care anymore about the matter of which year has the advantage but I would be comparing the same year GTI with the same/closest year ITR.

The 20th Anninv. GTi has the same 180 hp 1.8t but with a 6 speed tranny. The difference between it and the rest og the 2003 GTi's is the beautiful interior including Recaro seats, bigger brakes, and the tranny. The 20th Anniv. and the 337 GTi are pretty much the same car but often show slower 1/4 times due soley to the tranny ... in the 5 speed tranny, you can hold 3rd to about 7k and finish out the run, but on the 6 speed you have to hit 4th ... leaving the 6 speed behind about .2 behind ...

oh, and the 337 and the 20th come with 18's (BBS's on the 337 and OZ's on the 20th) which also come into play ... the 16's that came on the 2000/2001 GTi's are better for 1/4 mi times. They weight just a tad less than the 18's, but with the center of the weight being closet to the hub, the get spinning alot faster ...

I think it's a drivers race personally but I would put my money on the R given equal drivers. But then again I'm gonna try to beat a type r in my car I'd say I have the advantage too. lol j/p sorta.
