Question Whats the deal?

Well, after reading several posts on quarter mile times, i found most people said thier civic ex was running around 16.5, some said more, some said less. most of them had similar mods to me so i figured i would run about the same. i went to the track on wednesday night for my very first time. i have a 5-speed ex coupe, aem sri and dc tcs cat back exhaust, removed everything from my trunk and had about a half tank of gas. my reaction times were .613, .623, .712 , and .813 , and i didnt miss a gear and my shifts were perfect. the best i could pull off was a 17.1 at 79.5 mph. did i do something wrong or could it just have been the fact that it was 90+ degrees out and 93% humidity? i was also running on 17 inch wheels, the 15s and 16s that are in my garage have bad tires on them, that is why i stuck with the 17s. could that have a been an issue? i was hoping to break into atleast the 16s. somebody help me.

O.K. you are running heavy 17" wheels and tires. What brand are they? Weather can play a factor in racing. Ive run a 16.5 in my ex coupe completely stock. How were you launching? You need to improve you reaction times, unless a .500 is the perfect reaction time at your track. What I did, first time out at the track, was I put the car to the line and then put the clutch in to set the revs to 3000 rmps. When the light turned green I dropped the clutch and went. You may need to work with this a little bit and perfect it, but that is basically how you improve your times. If you count 1/1000 when the last yellow light lights up and then dump the clutch, you should be going right when the green light comes on. Lots of practice is needed to perfect this. My uncle does that and thats how he drags. Hes got a 32' ford coupe that runs 9's.

a perfect is .500. so they arent horrible start times. my wheels are velox vx-8. they weigh about 17 pounds a piece. i start out exactly how green civic explained to me. i really dont know what else it would be other than my wheels or the weather.

well I see this happen mostly with celicas and rsx's but 1 of 2 things 1 you could be shifting at the wrong RPM. 2 could be spinning through 1st and not realize it. Also go back to the 15's that should help. Also remeber that perfect shifting to you may not be the most efficient way overall. The track can be a humbling experience. I've got vids of me racing other Gt-S's and beating them even though they have mods. 1 in particular is a guy who runs 15.8 16.1 in the 1/4. no GT-S should hit that high. he swear his shifting is perfect. We are teaching him by using vids!

I suggest taking out your passenger seat and carrying someone in the rear with a video camera. then use different drivers in the same car. Then compare times with the vids!!! We are starting this new idea to help noob gt-s drivers get used to the crazy 6spd we have!lol Good luck and keep trying you'll only get better!!

if you really want to race. serioulsy take out your rear seats, spare tire. lose your 17s, and put stock 17lbs 17s wont help you go any faster. you be hitting 16s no time

damn thank you. i guess i meant shifting perfect is like, not missing gears, not dropping rpms at all, stuff like that. i let it wind out a few times but usually shift at around 6800.
