scratching/whirling sound from engine bay...

when a/c is on.
it just developed today, after i got out of the gym and was heading home, i was at a stop light and i heard these scratching and whirling sounds, at first i thought it was the car next to me, but that car turned right and there was no one around me, so i knew it was me. when i go home, i opened the engine bay, and had the a/c on, and the whirling can be heard at idle, and if i gave it a little gas (keeping RPMs under 3k) i can all kinds of wierd sounds. there is definately something wrong. a/c still works and is cold. its already passed 6:00pm, the honda service shop is closed, i'll have to take it in monday , but has anyone had a problem like this? should i be worried? its really hot outside (100+ a lot), can this be a contributing factor?

btw, its a 2k2 EX coupe, auto, 12800 miles.

I'd have to actually hear it... but I'm thinking 1 of 2 things.

1. Compressor belt is a little loose

2. Pully needs to be tightened and/or greased

Mine does it, but only a little. I haven't gotten around to it yet though.

i guess its okay for the weekend, i was just hoping that the a/c compressor didn't go out, its too darn hot for that.

took it to the dealer, and they ordered me a new a/c compressor. they are going to replace it next week when it comes in. the a/c still works luckily, and hopefully it still works the rest of the week.

i wouldn't be surprised if the alternator was going out, running a system with over 1200 watts, but the dealer said a/c compressor, so thats what they are going to replace, lets see if thats really the problem.

I had that same sound it was the power-steering pump. I became louder when the clutch was in. Honda replaced it under warranty
