I HATE you, honda!!!

check this out:

i have a 2002 civic with 68,800 miles on it. day before yesterday, i stop at this stop light, and i hear a "popping" noise when i let the clutch out. i think, "humm......that's not good..."
i went and talked with my buddy whom confermed that my throw-out bearring was the noise.
that's what i thought, so i took it to the dealership, you know, because the civic is advertised at a 10yr./110,000 mi. powertrain warrenty. i get there, and they say, "clutch problems, that's not part of the powertrain, it's a wearing part, it's all in the drivers problems, not ours."

explain to me why the clutch isn't part of the powertrain.......doesn't it go: engine, CLUTCH, transaxle? how can the clutch not be part of the powertrian? can you drive without a clutch...no! and why would it be going out at 70,000 mi.? i have friends that they are at 150, 200,000 mi. and haven't touched their clutch. honda is being cheap as*holes , and i think they are going to try to charge me a shitload of cash.........

You shoulda read your warranty....Clutch parts are "consumable" & "replaceable". As for it going at 68,000..well...depends on your driving style & how much more HP you've gained with mods. People who can go 150,000 on a clutch probably go through brake pads like mad!

that's it.......i don't drive that hard, (i don't think) i've had this car for a year and a half, that's 68,000 miles in a short time. hence i don't do a lot of stop-and-go driving....these are all highway miles.....not much shifting envolved.....

correct. The clutch is a consumable/replaceable part, therefore its not covered under warrenty. Depending on your driving style, the clutch can wear out at different speeds. If anything, this is only a reason to upgrade to an ACT clutch.

Also, refering to the jewish remark in the post, i'd think you'd want to edit that out. Some members may become offended by it and it may or may not get you banned. Not to mention people might start throwing out the racist remarks.

EDIT: your idea of driving hard or riding the clutch may be different to someone who is more experienced.

when you come to a stop, like at a stop light, you should put it in to nutural while you wait. if you hold in the clutch for extended periods it can lead to premature wear of the Throw out bearing. So, do you hold in the clutch a lot at lights?

Still, Warrentys dont ushually cover wear items, like clutch, breaks ect.... If it were an automatic they probably would cover it. But when the Item is user controled (Clutch/Brakes), they cant warrenty what may have been User Error.

Honestly buddy you should really shut up, common sense honda will not warrenty something that you will break because you cant drive right. You think Honda should pay to have the clutch replaced after 2,000 miles of a person who is just learning to drive a stick? Plus, I somewhat take offense to what you said; the "jewish" comment. That can get me arguing with you on a whole other arguement. So really go take you hick-*** somewhere else. It funny usually people like you are stuck driving domestic piles of garbage - oh well, im sure yours is nice and ricey anyways.

Bah, fine - i'll take back what I said about you but still think twice about what you say. That whole being Jewish thing means nothing - I don't even understand where or why it came from.

We usually always here other members problems.. but we dont offend people in doing so. But also, just to be nice - You might want to have a mechanic look at it something might not have been seated correctly causing it to wear (it would be very hard to prove). I also have heard that the clutch in our civics arent the greatest.

That popping noise might not be a sign of imminent clutch failure. The throwout bearings on our clutches are known to make lots of squeaks and noises... most of the time it just needs to be repacked with grease. Besides the popping, does it feel any different than before?

Mine has been making squeaks for the last 20,000 miles, but the clutch still feels fine. And yes, it is a wear item.

As for that "remark", thank you for changing it. We usually like members to make their own changes ... we only step in as a last resort.

I thought everyone held the clutch down at stoplights. that's how my dad taught me how to drive (the only training I've ever had).

my last car was a dodge shadow that I had from brand new until 110k miles without ever replacing the clutch, and that's the car I learned on.

NO CAR... not even a Ferrari has a warranty on a clutch. I don't know why this comes as a surprise at all. It says it pretty much straight forward in the warranty book that it isn't covered.

Well I hope for the better. ACT here you come? I dont hold my clutch at stop lights. I down shift to second and then put it in neutural. Then when the light turns or is about to turn green I put in the clutch and start to go at green.

False.

BMW's maintenance program that comes with their new cars covers EVERYTHING, including clutches. So if you burn up the clutch on your $55,000 M3, BMW buys you a new one.

Where is the 10/110 warranty coming from? I've never heard of that on a Honda unless that's some HondaCare purchase done through finance or something.

It's a bummer that this happened at 68k however it isn't totally unheard of either. It's a situation to hate but not a reason to hate Honda.

Nobody can take any race remarks anymore. Since this guy took such offence to a jewish remark than i take offence to his hick-*** remark. I think a mod should remove it. Since there are no racial slurs allowed.

My old dealer said the only part on the car that is NOT covered are the tires. I don't know about this, though.

ok... now uve gotten problems.... i had the same thing happen to me and honda DID fix it.... Apparently what happened is the throw out bearing went bad... which gave you your first symptoms... NOW since you have the rattling noise... which happened to me only when the clutch wasnt pushed in , is the input shaft.... whats happening is that the throwout bearing is done, and because that happened and you neglected to fix it , you have destroy'd the other bearings, the pilot , etc... and NOW the input shaft is vibrating against the whole tranny.. causing more problems and soon tranny failure. NOW because youve waited so long to get it fixed ... its not just a throw out bearing problem.. there are many parts that u may or maynot have destroyd or ruined. You really need to get it fixed before you tranny falls out your car ... literally.

that's crap!!
i even called honda of america, they said no.
and the rattling in the engine, i found it....it was my heat shield.
i think the throw-out bearing was just out of place a little, cause it hasn't been popping, and the petal feels good. it's running tip-top.
(i'm still gonna get a clutch and flywheel a.s.a.p)

when you called honda...what did you tell them...did you say clutch...or throw out bearing..when i hear clutch..i think disc and pressure plate..and the disc is like brake pads...wear and tear is on you..0 warranty....if you say throw out bearing...thats something they might be more leanient on...especially if others are having probs

no. i said throw-out bearing. HA (Honda of America) said they would call me back in a few days. when HA did, HA said that they had talked with the supervisor, and HA said that if i had been at <50,000, that they might have been able to help. since i was at 72,000 mi., there was nothing honda would do to help.
