Angry Removing stock headunit (read DIY)

I already read the DIY and got as far as I could. I removed the cigarette lighter portion, but when it comes to removing the "enitre panel" with the AC controls and everything, I got lost. I unscrewed the two screws as instructed, but that thing was not coming out. I mean, I was pulling till I was blue in the face, and that thing never budged. WHAT exactly do I need to pull/push on up inside the dash to remove the CD player?

Open the pocket and put your thumbs there. Tilt your vents upwards and grab with the rest of your fingers.

The two screws you mean the ones that underneath and on the left hand side facing up right?

If those are the oens your referring two then it's just a good pull from there buddy

01 and 02

the DIY is for a 01, I think you have an 02, I do and I know it's not that easy.
for starters 02's have to remove the whole center console not just the 01's ashtray/cig lighter panel.
I'm gonna swap out my headuint too, if you don't have an answer by this week, I'll go ahead and do it and let you know.

If you can't wait and figure it out let me know.

I just did it and i have an 02. U can just push from behind the radio once those two screws are out. you dont have to take the whole centerconsole out either just the part where the lights and blank squares are. U gotta push a little hard but it will eventually pop out. once the bottome pops out you can get your fingers behind the panel and pull the whole thing out.

Yeah, I have to do all this just to get the serial number to avoid paying Honda $73. Unless someone knows where the serial number is besides on the back of the CD player. There is no way I am paying someone just to find my serial number. And if I have to, I'm just going to buy a new deck.

Mine was on a white sticker on the side of the glovebox. On the OUTSIDE left panel when you open it, not immediately obvious.

Arrow Headunit Removal '03 DIY

Tools Needed:

-Philips Screwdriver
-Crescent(sp?) Wrench
-Socket Wrench (can't remember the size)
-Brute Force

Step 1:

Using your right hand, place thumb in lighter and fingers on corner of plastic piece and pull to release it from the clips. There are 5 clips total: 2 on each side and 1 on top.

Step 2:

Wiggle your fingers around and keep pulling to remove the rest of the plastic piece.

Step 3:

Once plastic piece is free, unplug the lighter and place the entire piece aside.

Step 4:

Look up underneath the new empty compartment and find these two silver screws.

Step 5:

With those screws removed, angle your center vents toward the floor and open up your flip-down storage compartment beneath your headunit. You can now have something to grip when you go to pull it out. Place your fingers on the mini-ledge created by moving the vents and your thumbs on the inside-top of the storage compartment.

Step 6:

Pulling very hard, remove the ENTIRE center unit.

Step 7:

Unplug the wiring to the CD player, hazard button, and Air controls. To remove the CD deck there are four silver screws. The only problem child is the screw tucked up behind the top air controls. Just use a crescent(sp?) wrench to wiggle it loose. The other three screws should be easy to remove with a philips screwdriver.

It's slightly different, and this one is much more helpful for any newbs new to the stuff, rather than the DIY listed on the site.

I agree it's not THAT hard, but for someone (like me) who hasn't pulled apart their nice new dash before, it might be helpful for someone to see exactly what to do. I in particular, am not real interested in "figuring it out on my own," because frankly I don't want to be making $400 payments on a car with cracked dashboard pieces and broken parts because I thought I knew what I was doing.

Mine was a b1tch at first, but I went and got me a panel puller tool and used that to pry it out. once the first clips popped it all came out easy.

If it helps, I have pictures of me doing it (huhuh he said do it) on my site...

just a heads up this does not work on the EX 03 models. u have to lift up the shiter ring, then remove 2 screws, then pull that basic and that whole piece comes out.
