Clifford Matrix RS3 Responder
Well, I've got all of this work done on my car and I just realized that I am still using my factory system. I don't really want to go to NOPI without an alarm.......all those beautiful cars is a thief's paradise.
Does anyone have the Clifford RS3 alarm? It looks pretty sweet.

Has anyone heard any reviews of it? Where can I get it? I'm thinking Ebay would be the cheapest place to find it.
Thanks.

RS3 = Viper 790xv = Python 880XP -- all the same thing. Anyway, i have it, ive installed quite a few. They are ok, its nice to have confirmation chirps from the transmitter. The antenna on the transmitters have a tendancy to break off, leaving you a little spring looking thing hanging out the top of it. I've been locked out of my car once because the antenna just went out for no real reason - the next day i replaced the antenna with a new one and haven't had any problems out of it since. I have seen that with one other car with this alarm too. The range is slightly better then regular alarms, but is nowhere near that of Compustar's spread spectrum systems. If you have a stick you would probably want to get a compustar instead, they are able to remote start manual transmissions, none of DEI's have safety features for that. If you didnt want a remote starter, Viper has the 690xv without a remote start. to remote start our cars you have to bypass the immobilizer with either a spare key under the dash and a dei 555u (or you can use a relay instead of the 555u) or a 555i. the remote start feature is awesome, i cant believe i didnt put it in my car sooner. I use it almost every day.
As for wanting it for NOPI, i really would feel safer there then anywhere else, at least if you are showing your car, it'll be open all day anyway, and although ive never been to nopi, im going to assume the hotels are parties like at any other show, and people are up all night partying like rock stars, so it would take some big nuts to break into a car with people hanging out outside.
best place to get it is probably ebay, but if you pay over 340 for it your getting ripped, circuit city and best buy have em for 500 installed everyday, and they do go on sale sometimes, installation is $160. If you find one under $200 its deals, they cost dealers like 175.

Compustar is the best. my friend is using it on his S22000. he was having dinner on the top flood at CN tower (Toronto). he remote start him car and it worked. that's crazy, is about 40 floor. is damn good
Ok, could someone explain the difference(s) between the Compustar SWSS-AS and the Clifford Matrix RS3 Responder (aka Viper 790vx ...)
I'm curious about getting a full alarm system like this, and just wanted to know which would be better. The Spread Spectrum would be nicer to have, but I don't what the price is on that, and if it costs more is it worth the extra cash?
Thanks ..

well. Compustar is a great system. but pretty expensive. let's face it, there are resons why they are so expensive. with compustar, you get function like pager alarm (10km), remote start (10km as well). if you car parking underground, and you are on the 30th floor, np, you can still remote start your car, or someone bump your car or break in to you car, you alarm pager will let you know. all you have to do is compare functions between different brands. if you have enough money, get clifford since they have lifetime warrenty. hope this help

the way compustar starts a manual is kinda wierd. when you turn your car off, it stays running, unless you touch the brakes, and stays running until you open and shut your door. i guess that by making you turn your car off without stepping on the brake, that insures that your car is in neutral and the ebrake is on (you wouldnt get out of a rolling car, right?).
the biggest difference between then 790 and a swss-as is that the compustar has about 6X the range of the dei alarm. the dei's are effective to about 1200 ft (~1/4 mile or less) while the compustar's range on the spread spectrum is about 6000ft (~1 1/4 miles or so).
I have never owned a compustar alarm, so I cant give you any of the shortcomings of the system like i can the dei.
if you know how to install alarms yourself, the difference is only about $50 between the alarms on ebay. I have no idea what you'll pay for install from a compustar authorized dealer though.
