Do I have to use the donut gasket when installing a shorty header?

Do I have to use the donut gasket when installing a shorty header? I was installing my header this evening and everything was going smooth until I cracked the exhaust flange bolt with the spring. So I have 2 on order from My Honda Dealer. But, do I have to use the big donut gasket from the header to the downpipe with the new header?

make sure that the flange on the spring bolt goes THROUGH the hole on the down pipe and does not get hung up on it. this is a common mistake.
