Ok, at practice my friend gets picked up by his cousin.

Today, his cousin's boyfriend shows up, driving his cousins car. I notice him eye-ing up my car. I walk over towards my car, and I get a "What do you have under the hood?"

I reply "only an intake".

"Want to race?"

"What do you have?"

"Nothing, I'm stock" he says.

Not knowing whether I'd win or lose, I refused and said "maybe tomorrow."

Now, he has a 2002 Silver Mitsubishi Lancer OZ edition. Its a 5 spd tho. He would also have 2 other passengers.

I have an EX coupe with a K&N FIPK. I'm an auto

Who do you think would win? On a highway and from a stoplight?

I share your pain, he'd prob take you off the line, but I think you could take him. I raced my friend in his stock Lancer and it was slow as f**k, then again, it was auto vs auto. Anyways, what u got to lose? Even if you do lose, tell him you missed 3rd gear.

I know how to launch alrite with my auto. I was only a hood behind my friend when we raced. He had a Jetta 5 spd.

He might take you off the line, but you should get him in the long run. I have an lx 5 speed with only CAI and catback exhaust and raced 2 of those with intake, exhaust and 5speed and left them behind. Thats a car that is actually slower than the vic. You think automatic civics are slow? Lancer automatics are even slower from my experience.

On the subject of Lancers, (and NOT EVOs, don't even say that in the same breath as an OZ edition Lancer), has anyone noticed that Lancer drivers as a group drive like they're cars are fast, and drive somewhat reckless? I'm not trying to stereotype everyone that drives a Lancer, but I can't even count how many times I have seen BASE model Lancers fly by me on the freeway, or on city streets, like they are driving a 911. It just cracks me up. What is it about these cars??? And everytime I see them do it, I laugh and think to myself "you're driving like that with one of the few cars with LESS power than my Civic?"

If the guy can drive you'll probably lose. 7hp is not much to compare, and also he's a 5speed so that's an advantage too. Lancers(OZ) also have more stock torque, and that's where the pickup comes from.

It's all about the gearing in this race. Don't worry Civics have good gearing i can beat cav DOHC and yes it was a manual.

omg rofl....what a freakin pansy....

I just got home from our "race". I get out of practice, and I see him revving his engine in the parking lot. I try to hold back my laughter.

I walk over to him. "where we gonna do this?"

"da bridge"

"ok"

So we go over to the bridge, which happens to be probably less than a 1/6 of a mile long. He pulls to the right, I get to the left. I slow down, as in to line up next to him. Im practically at a stand still and the stupid bish burns out. He gets a body on my from the start. Im like what the f*ck? There was no countdown, no beep, no go, no nothing. He just leaves. So Im like wow, Im never going to get him now. I wasn't even past 4k in 2nd gear when we finished the bridge. He ebrake slides it, almost hitting a construction worker, and turns around the way we came. What a freaking douche.

Im going to see if he wants to do a real race tomorrow. Ya know, one where I can at least hit 3rd gear. And maybe I'll explain to him the fundamentals of racing, how you're supposed to wait for your opponent and launch together, not just go when you feel like it.

If I'm not mistaken, don't those MX-6s with the v6 have the same engine as the Probe GTs of the same year? About 164hp or so? I thought they were pretty respectably quick, maybe they are in 5 speed form only. I almost bought a new auto 1997 Probe GTS, the special edition one, when they came out. Now this can turn into the "MX-6/Probe thread". Hijack away....

I believe you're correct, it has somewhere around 160 HP if you got the bigger engine. But i still don't think he would be able to beat a 5 spd Z32 with 224 HP as long as the Z is driven fairly well.
