I have yet to hook that part of the RSM up. Although I DID get that, too. Nice part is it just plugs into the RSM, directly.
My car's been at the stereo place getting the finishing touches done in it before Hot Import Nights, the last few days, so I'll have to see if I have time to install it and play with it before roll-in on Friday.

I went and bought another lower center dash piece from the dealership. (Under $10 if you can believe it!!!) My ICE installer did all the work. He used bondo and fibreglass to mold the thing once he cut out a hole the approximate size. Then, using interior automotive trim paint, he had a color-match done and viola!
The thing just fits in there with friction. He did that good a job on the sizing and shaping of the hole.
After Hot Import Nights is over, I just need to relocate my 12V power outlet. Thinking somewhere on the center console on the passenger side.

Haven't looked at the AFCs yet. I'm waiting on that until I perform the K20 swap, next spring.
I would say you shouldn't need that unless you're going to turbo the thing, or have some other reason for toying with the AF ratios.
However, the RSM (Rev/Speed Meter) for which this DIY applies, would benefit you with the inclusion of a tachometer, as well as all the other inherent features of the RSM. Not only that, but it's fun to play with.

The RSM only monitors engine functions. . . namely, speed and RPMs. That's it. It INFORMS you of what's going on. What you do with the information is anyone's guess.
Seriously, it can map 1/4 mile times, 0-60 times, tell you when to shift for maximum power band tapping, etc. It's a useful tool if you understand why it can benefit you. I would recommend checking the links in one of my previous posts.
A'PEXi's website is pretty informative.

A'PEXi's website is pretty informative. if u have mad power sucking amps, its also good for monitoring how much to rev to get it upto 14v. plus i think the tach and speedo on the rsm is more accurate than the analog meters.
Finally! I finished my dremeling out of the dash / center console peice. It took so long, I had to be so patient so that I would not mess it up. Anyways, I am really proud of it and would like to show off my handy work.
For anyone installing an RSM and reading the DIY description. I found it difficult to trim the plastic revealing the wire on the ECU wires. An alternative to doing that would be using electrical wire tap-ins.
Also, when doing the codes for the "Car Select" the manual is kind of hard to understand on what you need to set the SP1 setting as, set it as 4p.

Yeah, I was overly excited when I took the picture and posted it. The black plastic on the right was just extra shavings which peeled off. The tolerances to make it fit next to the Socket are really close on all sides.
