Which oil would you recommend????
Ok, I hope this is the proper forum to post this in. Anyway, my car is ready for its first oil change. Here is my question, should I use regular oil and change it every 3500 miles or should I use synthetic and change it out every 7500 miles? I'm not so worried about cost because either way it will work out to be the same. Just wondering what you would do and why. Thanks in advance for your help. If this is not the correct place to post this, I am sorry

well this is where you make your decision..
Honda recommended oil is Mobil because this is what comes in the car, new from the factory..
Whether you use synthetic or standard, i recommend you change it atleast every 4,000... Nothing above that...
I left the dealer when i bought my '03 and they said just change your oil every 10,000 miles and i was like "What A Joke!"
My personal use is Standard Valvoline 5w-20..
whether you choose synthetic or standard, i recommend that you stay with mobil since this is pretty much what everyone recommends and Honda themselves..
But this is your choice, so you'll have to decide..
Do you know of any advantages of synthetic? If not, then i wouldnt really use it if i were you.. You wouldnt really see the difference if you dont know..
Hope this helps..

Dude....Mobil 1 5w30 .......10w30 winter (for me in NY) synthetic is the only way to go. I change my oil every 2500 miles on the dizzot. Keep your engine clean!!!I'd never let the oil get a chance to get dirty.

Hmmmm........seems kinda split on regular or synthetic. Here is the real question. I am kinda old school when it comes to how long between oil changes. I do it between 3000 and 3500 miles. I know that they say 10000 at the dealer, but I'm not ok with that. How often do you change your oil? I think I'm gonna run the synthetic because I do in all of my motorcycles. But I am unsure of how often to change it. Thanks for listening.

At 2,500 you did let your engine get dirty. Oil is already gone after 8 hrs in the engine. But of course, we cant change oil every 8 hours. Still, dont let more then 3,000 mile rack up before you change to oil. And yea, use Mobile 1. A bit pricey, but its worth.

3,000 is the interval that was brainwashed into the consumers' minds by the oil/oil changing industry.
Synthetic may be better in that it last longer but we drive economy cars not vettes. I just can't see how anyone justifies putting expensive syn in their cheap econobox.
I have my oil changed at the dealer with the oil that the car ships with. It's mobil 1 according to the dealer and comes in quarts (not bulk). I change every 4k.
The owner's manual recommends 5k intervals on the severe schedule. I do 4 because it makes me feel better.......

you will get pretty good results with any conventional 5w-20 as long as the change interval is not excessive. penzoil, castrol gtx, genuine honda oil (which is manufactured by Exxon Mobil) all have molybdenum additives, which are good.
i've seen some good used oil analyses of motorcraft 5w-20 (same as Conoco Hydroclear 5w-20) oil despite its lacking of moly additives....

i use castrol syntec 5w30 w/ honda filter elements...which some people say is crap...but atleast they cant nail me for the type of filter i use in case something happens.
i like motorcraft 5-20 synthetic blend every 3k with a fram filter.
it's easy to find, damn near every store carries it and the fram filter is easy to get off without tools.

I would use synthetic, mobil1 5w30 is what I use, and change it every 5,000 miles. You can go 7,500 if you want, but I think 5k is a more appropriate time frame to change my oil because of my driving habbits.
either standard or synthetic ... all the oil brands are the same between the two...meaning if you get mobil standard oil or valvoline or castrol or w/e standard oil they all have the same effect on your car...so it doesnt matter if you get the cheap or expensive brand. there was a recent study done on this topic i'll try to post up the link where i read this.

Yeah, what he said
I use 5w-20 conventional. When I bought the car, the previous owner was running Mobil1 5W30 Synthetic. By changing to 5W20, I actually gain a couple of MPG in overall driving.
As for intervals, hey oil gets dirty (synthetic or conventional). Its why you change it. On a high performance or turbo car, I'd do synthetic (especially a turbo). Since my Civic is no performance, conventional works just fine.

I use AMSOil heavy use in my car and love it. It takes a beat down at high revs during the hellacious summers in OK at the track and never blinks.
I prefer synth, but ultimately as long as its good oil and you change it regularly you should be OK.

heres my experience concerning oil
10w-30... altho its made for winter, its too think for our engines to spin up fast
5w-30 it is considerablly faster for gaining rpm compared to 10w, but you really should use 5w-20 if you wanna be a freeway freak
