D17a1 m/t vs d17a2?

Will a D17A1 manual transmission bolt right up to a D17A2?

The tranny on myD17A2 **** the bed so i'm searching Craigslist locally for a new one and wondered if the D17A1 tranny would fit?

Thanks,

Dave

It will bolt up no problem. I just did the same swap this afternoon. Make sure to remove the clutch slave cylinder so you don't have to bleed the clutch

Re: D17a1 m/t vs d17a2?

The extra few Hp isn't worth the cost. You will need d17a2 ecu, wiring harness, headers, o2 senopsors, and a few other things...

Is the D17A2 VTEC or VTEC-E?

Re: D17a1 m/t vs d17a2?

This still sounds like VTEC-E to me without some serious aftermarket cams. What power output gains are we looking at here?

I totally forgot that I pulled up one of these heads 2 weeks ago.

The D17A1=non VTEC
D17A2=VTEC-E (switching from 12 to 16 valve operation anywhere over 2,500 RPM) for fuel economy.
D17A(un-numbered)=VTEC with high performance cams in Pakistan models and some JDM/Asian units

Re: D17a1 m/t vs d17a2?

The D15B head is compatible (as the heads are the same). Its the crank-shaft in the block that's different. A mini-me setup is going to be quite tricky.
I have the D15B block too, but I'm looking to increase displacement and raise the compression a bit. My D15B makes the same power as your D17A2, but obviously less torque due to the differences in crankshaft.

Re: D17a1 m/t vs d17a2?

Personally, I like the naturally quick response from my seventh gen D15B, but I like the torque of the D17A2? It would be great if Honda implemented the real VTEC in these units like the previous generations.
