Good Battery?

What exactly tells a good brand new battery from a worse new battery?

My maxima needs a new battery and when i went to pep boys i couldnt get a normal answer...... the guy told me that "i wouldnt trust the cheaper batteries in my car, only the more expensive ones" WTF? that doesnt explain anything.

when i'm looking for a battery is there a number or rating i should look for> for example; tires that have a 360 treadwear are supposed to "last longer" then tires with a 280 treadwear.... is there a scale liek that for when i look for batteries?

CCA is the maximum power output when the battery is cold. Basically on a cold morning, a bigger number is better. Gives you the idea of how much strength it has.

Reserve capacity is the amount it can run your car before it starts to die.

If all numbers on two batteries are the same, then it comes down to warranty. Replacement warranty means if it dies, they give you a new battery for free. Pro rated means they give you a discount on a new one.

If you have a system, an Optima yellow top means you can drain the battery more without harming it.

Basically a normal car battery needs to be fully charged at all times. Running it low damages the cells permanently.

are there any particular numbers i should look for in the CCA and RC? like give me a CCA number that is high and found on really good batteries so i can use it as a standard when i go shopping for a battery.

example: that Optima Yellow battery should have a really high CCA number I'm assuming so when i look for a battery i'll check out the CCA number on it and compare it to the Optima Yellow battery number.....

so whats a good CCA number to use as a standard?

there is no standard. the batteries for our car are very limited because of how small the space for the battery is. the best battery you can get is the yellow top optima, which is the only optima that will fit in ours. other than that, just go get a die hard that goes in our car. you can decide on which warranty to get, it doesn't really matter cause die hards last a pretty long time compared to other batteries.

if you have a huge stereo system that drains your battery, you need a capacitor. with the cap. you can use a regular battery.

just go to sears and tell them you want the biggest die hard gold or silver that you can put in there. I use to work for sears, so I know their batteries.

Your car has a specific size that will fit, it will be called a group number.

There may be a few choices, but I have had good luck with the yellow batteries from wal mart. plus they are everywhere, so with your reciept, you can get a new one.
