Well lets just say this. I was driving and the light turns yellow and i'm like 50-75 feet away from the light. So one of those moment of a 1/2 second decision. So i went and my luck there was a cop and she said that i ran a "STEADY RED". I was like wtf are you color blind that was yellow. So what happened is that she gave me a ticket. The thing is that how could she see what light it was one she was at the light on the right.
Don't cops have better things to do then bust me for something i didn't do?
Just wanted to say sorry about this. I'm gona get it fixed and fix my car and start off fresh. If you love your car so much don't race it and destroy it by mistakes. Read all about it on the post from June 25, 2003. The day my life turned around.

Deff fight it...I fight all my tickets..even the ones I know I did. If there is any doubt the judge usually ( i can't stress the word usually enough..cause if the judge doesnt I don't want you yelling at me) Will rule in your favor. Also there is the chance that the cop wont show(although they have for every ticket I EVER got) Good luck.
Yes same **** happened to me. Same exact ****. I havent fought it yet... im debating on whether or not i should. Are you sure drunkmonkey that they will rule in my favor if there is a doubt?

Fly's not the only one who will stick up for law enforcement. Personally, I think that you should have gotten a ticket. The cop can tell what color the light is by watching the pedestrian crossing lights that face her direction. When they flash don't walk, the light will change yellow. When they are solid don't walk, they are yellow for 2 sec., and then red. If you saw the light change and felt you had to make a decision, you made the wrong one. If you need to decide, decide to stop. If it turns yellow, and you feel you have no choice, then you go. But in your story, you wrote that there was a decicion to be made. You clearly made the wrong one, and therefore you got a ticket. Pay it, and deal with it.
Although running a red light is stupid because it endangers others; there are MANY American laws that give rich companies exempt status from killing people by telling them that their product is safe for their health (dairy milk, fluoride toothpaste). There are also MANY American laws that are bogus and need to be re-examined (speed limits on the highway, drug laws, etc.) because of the overcrowding of our jails and the lack of any morality of many of the policeman that are protecting OUR streets.

But you don't understand St. Louis has alot of curupted cops. My sis ex boyfriends dad got pulled over and wasn't speeding. So he said that he wasn't speeding, so the cops decided to beat the s*** out of him. He is still fighting it untill this day and it was 3 years ago. He had to sell his house and everything to fight it. I'm sorry if i don't like them. Like school cops there cool and security cops(Burnout contest). Cops will pull you over and plant drugs in the car, so he will get you introuble. So you expect me to repect them? Would you?

So you may not respect them, and some of them may be corrupt. But you did do something illegal, by blowing the red, and you were caught for it. At least they only gave you a ticket for the light, by the sound of it, they could have done alot worse to you. Just pay the ticket, and move on with your life.

But it was yellow when i was in the middle of the intersection. And if i just pay the ticket my insurance company is gona find out that i'm driving this car and i'm only 17. Would you want to paythat much more money for the insurance? This doesn't help either when i'm tring to pay off for the car and i don't have a job no more and short of money. Couldn't have happened at a worst time, if you ask me. And i have one question it's kinda off this topic but why do cops care if your just standing around just looking each others cars? Better than going out and racing. But right after i got my ticket and i was geting on the highway some lighting was tring to race me. lol. Lets just say that i got smoked.

Okay, so the light was yellow while you were in the intersection. Unfortunately, you're 17 and the cop is, well, a cop. If you do try to fight it, the only way you could prove you're innocent is if the intersection has a redlight camera. Otherwise, just being 17, the judge will more than likely find in favor of the cop, and you get screwed with a ticket, and missing a day of work, if you have another job by then. You may wanna try and get the ticket pleaded down to another, lesser charge. Go to wherever you pay for tickets, for us it is the traffic courthouse, and talk to the JP behind the desk. Tell them that you would like to plead down the offence and pay the fine, and that may decrease your charge, and possibly not affect your insurance. Then again, I don't know if there is a lesser charge for the ticket that she gave you. Try it out, it can't hurt.
Btw, I wasn't trying to flame you with my earlier posts. It's just that so many people on here claim the cops gave them a "bogus" ticket. But from my experience, if you don't give them a reason to pull you over, you won't have to worry about that. Then, unfortunately, like in your case, the odds are all against you. Sorry man, I hope it all works out for ya.

Well it wouldn't of really bothered me but she wrote the ticket as a standing red when i passed the line and i was in the intersection and it was yellow. But it was a women and they don't let you off with anything. I guess they just like to feel incontrol. But she could of just gave me a warning or something but not a ticket. Thats bull and if she thought it was red she is color blind. And how can the cop prove that it is red she can't even see the light where she was cause they have the things on there so you can't see the light. I'm not tring to say all cops are bad. Some cops are cool. Like one cop pulled me over for neons and he just started to talk to me and he asked if he can search my car and he did and he didn't even look through the trunk. Now every time i see him i have my neons on i wave and him and some time we talk. But you got to admit some cops can be a big pain the a**.

True, some can be a big pain. But they don't exactly have the best job in the world. They see the really sh!tty side of the world on a daily basis. They have to deal with stuck-up, annoying, really b!tchy people daily. Sometimes they take it out on those that don't deserve it, which is wrong, but it happens. If you do go to the courthouse, talk to the JP and mention that from where she was sitting, you don't feel that she could properly see the light, and that you feel that you were unnecessarily pulled over. Just remember when doing this, to be as respectful and honest as you can be. I find that, when I get pulled over, and I do, that I call the officer "Sir" or "Ma'am", and don't do anything that could be considered threatening. When I stop, I shut off the car, place the keys on my dash, and both hands on the wheel. I don't move until I'm told, and I explain everything I'm doing, ie, "My wallet is in my back pocket, so I have to undo my belt" and so-on. Hell, I did this once, and the cop let me off with a warning, when he could have given me a ticket for the following.
1. Speeding, doing 80km/h in a parking lot that is 15km/h
2. Unsafe lane change
3. Not stopping for a red light
4. Driving with undo care and attention
5. Wreckless endangerment
6. Failure to yeild to a pedestrian
7. Non-functioning headlight. Only one was working.
But I did all of the stuff I mentioned. His partner got out of the car and I could see him on the other side of my car, with his gun out, and the cop talking to me had his hand on his gun. When he came back after running my information, his partner didn't even get out of the vehicle, I guess because I showed them that I wasn't a threat, and he asked me, "You didn't want to pay a $5000 fine, lose your car, and have to spend the night in jail do you Mr. Knox?" "No sir." He explained that what I did was wrong, but because of the circumstances, my g/f of 2 years just broke up with me (another story there), he would let me off with a warning. But I was red-flagged in the computer. And if I was caught doing any of that stuff again in the next two years, I would have to pay both fines, lose my car and go to jail.
So just be the most respectful 17-yr-old that you can be, and maybe it'll get ya somewhere.

I was nice to her and everything i said everything except i'm taking off my seat belt. And i turn off my car all the time and i pull over as soon as i saw those lights come on. Then i even said what did i do ma'am and shes like you ran that red and i'm like i never ran a red in my life and never will i think it's stupid. I just wait untill she tells me to take out my wallet. But i just reread it and it says Failier to stop for steady red singal at stop line. Does that mean i ran it? I'm not good at this usualy i'm good with this s*** but i guess i wasn't thinking at the time. And she didn't give me a court date what is up with that. I just think she saw that the car i was in looks fast but it's bone stock. Some times i just wish i had a motorcycle 600 R and turbo it they wouldn't be able to touch me.

"Failure to stop" yep- she charged you with running a stop light. No court date? It should more than likely get tossed on that alone. I mean, how are you supposed to fight it, when you don't know when you're supposed to go? Go down to traffic court and show them that there's no date, they should throw it out, and you get off free.

I just wanted to say that after i just wrecked my car from speeding on the highway. I just realized that cops are there to help me straighten up not to bitch at me cause of my car. Yes i think i should of got that ticket. But when ever i wrecked my car, I got out and looked at the other car and i saw that there was kids in there and i though to myself. I hope that i didn't hurt those kids or anything. I always had dreams that my car would be in sport compact car. That the day that I buy that magazine and look at my car in there. But i had to runin it because i wanted to go faster and showoff and i wasn't racing for anyone wondering out there. I always looked at my self as a smart drive and after this i realized that i'm a very stupid driver and that all my dreams are probaly gona be gone now. I just put this on here to let the people that are going to drive that when you get behind that wheel follow all the rules cause your puting so many lives in your hand. I'm sorry for all those people that i said that i hate cops but now i'd have to say i like them. Just think of it this way you speed your inmature and if you follow the rules your mature and you know that you kept people from dieing. But if i'm ever able to get the same car back and get a second chance i wouldn't take a chance by speeding. I just hope that i will find another dream to want with anyone car. Peace everyone and please drive save.
