question about racing from 30mph
ok like a month or so ago my friend got me a race with a guy he knows who drives a riced out ford contour. we started going on a really strait road and the guy in the passenger side tells us to go to 30mph and then he'll count it down. so i go to 30 and he counts..3...2...1..go. i was in second gear when he said go so i just decided to gun it, that didnt work, i wasnt accelerating very much so i downshifting to first....bad idea, too many RPMs, so i shifted back to second and guned it a second time..by the time i got back to second he was about a 2 car length ahead of me...my car then hauled *** and beat him of course, but my question is how could i have avoided the problem i had? i thought about it for awhile. if i had just stuck it in neutral and revved it to about 6k rpm and put it back in 2nd would i have been fine?
30 seems like a bad speed for us cuz its almost the end of first and for racing its early in 2nd so the pick up aint greate, you could have given ur clutch a lil preasure (which would be bad for the clutch but WTF!) and through that could have maybe raised ur rpm a lil better... i don treally know tho.
You could try putting the clutch in and reving to about 4000-5000 rpms and then let the clutch out. 30 mph is a bad speed to start racing for almost any car, except higher sport cars. You may just need to test out what works best for you. nice come back though.

Lol, peoples faces are funny when they dont expect it or see it comin..
Yeah you could have just played with the clutch.. if you are pressing the gas and push the clutch in about halfway and release you will jump about 250 rpms - 350 rpms, I do it mostly during turning, but it would work for a 30 mph take off..
Why 30.. most go at 40.. 30..? lol. Nice kill..
