Beat an SRT-4
I know I know BS..
You have to understand, this wasn't in a straight line. It was at last nights autocross.
I was up on him by a couple of thenths. FUN fun
The srt-4 has it pretty bad in Solo 2. they got dumped in to D-Stock, so they get to run against all the WRX's (All wheel drive is Exceptionally hard to beat in the corners). This guy Ran in STX and got thuroly whooped by an STX preped WRX wagon, among otherthings.
Highlight of the night was the arival of a WRX STi. the first thing that comes to mind when you see one is .... Damn, thats one hell of a hood scoop. (its about 3 times the height of the WRX's)
We had a suprising turnout, a whole bunch of "ricers" came out. These people ushually go to the drag strip, and its nice to see them interested in an other form of racing, but they have to learn that the Gas pedal is not an ON/OFF switch!! Spinning your tires coming out of a corner does nothing for acceleration. (SRT-4 drivers take note) It dosn't matter how much power you have, once those tires start to spin youre losing time. one other thing, DON'T and i mean DON'T use the brakes in a corner. Brake in a straight line and then enter the corner (OFF the brakes). you will turn so much better.
Oh ya, I ended up comming in 3rd in my class (STS) Not bad for a suposidly slow civic.

You can race just about any car ever made. with NO modification. thats what the stock classes are for. Autocross came about for the Average joe to get some racing in. The car only has to pass a basic safty inspection (Check battery tie down, wheel bearings, throttle return spring.... ect.) Other then that the only other safty item is a helmet of M2000 or greater. and Most clubs have a few loaners for newbys to use.

It's actually M95 or better unless your region does it differently. Here the rule is the 2 most current revisions are legal, so it's 95 and 2000. Roughly 2005, the Snell regulations change again and the 95's will be out. On the same note... I beat an RSX-S under the same circumstances...

Fastest track I've been on yet... some of the SS guys (mostly Z06s) were hitting 75 or 80.

True, I forgot about that. But why buy a M95 helmet when it will be obsolete so much sooner? I guess if you allready have one.
Isn't it fun outrunning cars that are supposedly so much faster then ours?

Oh yes... but what's more fun is the "How is a Civic beating me?" look on their face.
I'm gonna get my Si wheels powdercoated black then slap some Azenis on them... I found out my Yoks don't like heat very much, and I'm eating them really fast. Since I can get 4 Falkens for about 2.5 17" Yokohamas... I'm going of it. The extra stick and smaller diameter should help too.

this would be the perfect thread to ask this in....
When my motor swap is done, i want to go autocrossing, is there a class that i can compete in that won't be over competitive, i've never been autoXing before, so i don't want to be thrown in some profesional class just because my car doesn't have a stock motor. what class can i run in with a motor swap?

Hawk... I think you can run Street Mod. It's pretty open, but there's also Street Mod 2 for higher HP cars. I don't know what the rules are, but there's guys with Turbo 2.5RS that are running SM, so I don't see why not. I don't think you would have to run a prepaired class, but don't hold me to it, I'm not totally sure.
And the answer to the I/H/E.... your car wouldn't be stock would it? So why would you think you could run in a stock class? Stock means bone stock. You can change to different street legal tires and lighter rims as long as they stay the same EXACT size, no engine mods, you might be able to install suspension bars, but I forget the rules on that. Basic boltons are allowed in STS, as long as the stock cat remains. You can't do any internal work, can't use bigger rotors (you can use better ones, as long as they're the same size), also no rear disc conversions... if you wanna do that, you're gonna move yourself out of STS, which is pretty much a "nearly stock" class. No LSD and no rims wider than 7" either. Suspension work is allowed and probably in couraged if you want to do well in STS.

Stock allows for some Limited pep. You can change the exaust from the cat back. you can change the filter, but must retain the stock airbox. you can change the front Anti-roll bar to any that will fit. You can also run any wheel as long as it has the same dimentions as stock (Think lighter). You can also change the struts but must retain stock springs. STS is where most of us will endup. but remember it dosn't allow for wieght reduction, so if you have a carbon fiber hood then you cant run STS. I believe street prepaired (SP) is the first class to allow Weight reduction. Boilermaker1 got most of the STS rules. There are also some tire restrictions, max width 225 Minimum UTQG tread wear rating of 140 (You want as low as you can get. Softer = Stickyer)

Well the times are in, Finally.
SRT-4 43.237 PAX 87th with adjusted time of 34.503
01 Civic EX 39.633 PAX 19th With adjusted time of 31.072 This is out of 106 cars.
So I beat him by more then a few tenths. More like 3.604 seconds.
Im all warm and fuzzy now.

On the down side, the SRT-4 really needed a better driver.
