Unhappy Reckless Driving... Stupidest Decision EVER!!!!

Caution: This is a fairly large post!!!

My friend and I were driving thre Oviedo County here in Orlando Florida on Monday the 21st of April. We had just dropped a friend off at his house, I had never been down that far on Alafaya Trail. But we pull out of his development and start heading back towards UCF. We make the stupidest decission at the first traffic light we hit and since it was 2:20am we decide to see how long it would take for the vehicle to do 0-60 (I had a stopwatch with me from earlier on in the week when we had hosted the A-Sun conference). Well, the road was clear and the strip that we did this on had no cars, the bad thing though was, like almost all of Alafaya, it to was under construction. Well I get on the gas and bring the car up past the 60. As I left off the gas and begin to hit the brakes we roll past a black police vehicle (damb Oviedo cops, ehy can't they have the regular white vehicles). I realize that he's seen me and figure running would not be a good thing to do since I didn't know the area that well. I quickly pull over into an empty parking lot, even before he's turned around and put on his lights. When the officer approached my vehicle I was waiting there paciently with my hands on the steering wheel, so that he could see them. After that he asked me how fast I thought I was going, I replied, "I believe 60" (not knowing that he had caught me further back when I left off at 77). He replies, "well though your speed was decreasing, the radar gun got you doing 77 in a 35." I was like Ohh **** saying it in my thoughts, I could have sworn all of Alafaya was 45. After calling in the report, the officer asks the passanger and I to step out of the car they pat us down and the officer asks, if he could search the vehicle. I tell him very respectfully, "Sir, you are welcome to search the vehicle, the only things you'll find are my tool chest and a few amp wires dangiling in the rear." He seaches it and finds out I'm correct. Since I was really pollite and all, He give us the BIGGEST BREAK, by not taking my passanger and i to jail, though now I have to attend court on the 9th.

I totally regret everything I did that night, It was stupid and immature .

I have to see what happens in court.
Has this happened to anyone else if so what was the judges decission and what did you plead?
Also, if you take the Drivers Class Thingy, how many points will that take off your liciense, and willthat work in this case?

Thanks Everyone! Just had to get that off my chest.

Oh that's nothing. You coud have been doing way worse. Don't feel bad about it.

I've been pulled for racing a Mustang 5.0 before (this is back when i had my Trans Am). The cop let us go after a search of the vehicle. He handed us back our licenses and said "nice cars".

It's all in how you know to talk to cops. Don't be intimidated by them. You don't have to let them search your car.

I was also pulled once(again in my Trans Am) for going 85 in a 50 construction area while cutting off an undercover narcotics cop. I was fined with careless driving. Went to court, no cops showed up, got the charges dropped and sped on my way.

Don't worry so much. When you do something really stupid you will know.

I got caught going 108 in a 50. the nice police officer let me off with a verbal warning. I couldn't believe it. I haven't gone into triple digits since. You don't get second chances like that more than once.

Yep, 108 in a 55 on fm 529 in hickville (brookshire,tx, empty *** 4 or 5 mile at far most! town after katy going west on I-10) 2 days after my birthday when my family took me out to see the nopi.com show in a nearby town...
Cop was alright, he explained a bunch of he-hay bs about it would scare him if his daughter went out with kids like me.... and about my rims with low-pros... nice though, he could have towed my car and taken me to jail easily and for at least 48 hours or so...
He searched for drugs (although he was kinda freindly on the higher-leg area of the search, lol) I had nothing on me and was polite and respectfull....

speeding, multiple unsafe lane changes, and (forgot new insurance card...) no insurance .. 3 other poeple in the car... feel kinda bad about putting them in danger, but I realized I was still driving safely, it was a walk in the park to h-town style freeway running...

Cops are really strict in your place.

In mine, we can easily outrun cops coz' they're on foot. And if by any chance they do have a vehicle, it's a stock toyota corolla, not like the souped up vehicles in your country.

The only hazard when outrunning cops here is if you're ride is lowered. With all the humps and potholes, you're pretty sure to see sparks fly as you look at your rear view mirror!

ohh, one more question I had forgotten to add was, if you need your license to drive to and from school/work, will the court allow you to keep your license and only give you limited usage?

That is up to the court to decide, but it is not unheard of to get a restricted license.

Will this show up as criminal charge, and if so what does that do for employment?

traffic violation of your kind is a simple misdemeanor. If you havent went to court yet, then when you go to court ask for traffic school if that court system offers that. This in-turn will keep it off your record if your that worried about. If you have already been to court then contact your local district attorneys office to see about expongment of that charge. Overall your citation is a common citation and you dont need to worry that much, we all make mistakes.

95 in 65.

Kinna shitty, but the cop knocked it down to 80+ so I could attend traffic school and it would keep the violation in the "Infraction" range.

Went to traffic school, paid the ticket, and now I am scared to drive over 80. lol. lease:

Thanks for the replies everyone. My mom wants me to get a lawyer for the case, I dunno if it'd be worth it that much or if I'd just be paying a shitload more, for something I should do?! Ohh, if I do get to keep my liciense, would you guys/girls say getting a radar dector might be a good idea?

Edit: BTW, the reason she wants me to get a lawyer is cuz I live in Ft. Lauderdale, and it would be a long drive up to Sanford on the 9th for a court time of 9am.

A radar isn't gonna keep you out of tickets. Maybe you should invest in GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. It's free.
