Yes, seriously. Any 7th gen guys out there want to race me today?

Corrent weather stats:

4 hours of freezing rain hit town, then about 1/2" to 3/4" of snow landed.

Im running like a 0-60 time of like 45 seconds or more right now on my stock Potenza RE-040's on the sidestreets. Main streets are better, at least i have traction but i still cant do anything more than feather the acceleartor to get going...

DO NOT buy these tires if you drive your car all year round in the chicago area. Niassn is on f*cking crack to put these damn tires on this car. This is the 350Z's achilles heel. Even the G35 Coupe has better poor weather tires. I doubt even FWD will have much more luck in the crap with these things.

I HATE F*CKING WINTER WITH A PASSION. and the saddest part is that its March already and were just now starting to feel the wrath of jack frost.

One of the BIGGEST reasons I did not buy the SE-R Spec V. It comes with Z-Rated Summer tires. The first thing I would have had to do was go buy new tires for it. And I didn't think I should have to do that.
That and the car was built like a piece of crap kept me from buying it.

I'm over in Schaumburg right now, man I get no problems with traction but then again I'm not pushing anywhere close to the amount of hp that you are pushing. Where in wooddale are you at? Or are you at work right now?

Yea, i hear that... I HATED the SE-R SpecV, the interior was "neon"esque. almost as bad as the 01 civic coupes had it.... But for the price of the SE-R i would have definitely got it and bought a nice set of Sumitomo HTR+ tires.

I didnt have problem with getting the car moving on main roads, but i did on the sidestreets and i couldnt even get up my driveway in reverse! i didnt even take it to work today, i got my dad to hand over the keys to his 02 tahoe for the trip to work today...

The key word in the phrase "Traction control" is TRACTION. The system controls available traction. It doesn't make traction that doesn't exist. So your traction control isn't going to help you all that much in the snow since there isn't any traction to be had.

I realize that, but even when I take a corner harder than I should, on pavement, the car tends to hop and slide ....... And most of the time the streets here are plowed but the wet stuff makes driving shitty ..... So explain exactly how traction control works (as obviously the dealer didn't)

Well, typically, the system controls the throttle position, the brakes and the engine speed and tries to keep the car pointed in the direction it's supposed to be going. If it senses wheel slip and you're going straight, it'll close the throttle some and put less power down until you have grip again and then will let you go (that's why you'll hear of "defeatable" traction control in sports cars... T/C won't let you do burnouts). If it senses that the car is going sideways or the rear is coming around, it usually independently applies the brakes to try to straighten you out. Some of them also can control how much power is going to what wheels. You do have to help the system out some, it isn't perfect. It's not a total solution to the problem, your steering input is still usually needed to keep you from losing it, but the system will help you if there is traction to be found. The hop thing is not uncommon, I've been in cars with T/C and if the wheels slip, they hop for some reason. I don't know if it's the system trying to get grip or what, but I think its some way to keep them from just sitting and spinning freely.

thanks, I honestly did not know what it was ..... I assumed it would help the vehicle as 4 wheel drive helps vehicles...obviously not

Thank god i have this nifty little button just to the left of my steering wheel that says "TCS OFF" great for burnouts (which are way too easy to do in this car, even with an automatic) and donuts. Also the saviour feature that finally made it possible to get my car in the garage for the night yesterday. Today my baby dodnt go very far. I took my dads truck to work and let him borrow her since his shop is only about 3 miles away where my work is 18. Also since he owns his place he had the ability to leave as soon as weather turns sour. I dont. I have to wait till like 5 to leave work and then its still like an hour drive in this **** so its a fair trade.

Unfortunately i dont think my baby is going anywhere at all tomorrow since were in for almost 10 inches by morning. Im lookin at an old school soobie awd loyale hatch a lady at my work is sellin for 500 bucks so i may pick that up for winter driving on crap days like today.

Yea, it seems that the majority of 350Z's that are involved in accidents are not at fault for the accident. And a HUGE percent seem to be direct rear end collisions. What I cant figure out is how many people cant see a car in front of them. (Both my accidents ever were being rearended, cav and civic) Im really sick of all the people out here who think they are invulnerable in shitty weather. *******s in SUV's riding small cars rear bumpers on wet icy snowy pavement just pisses me off to no end.

Ya, like I said I felt bad for him .... Young guy too, 25 maybe .... Although he worked at the dealership, so thats a plus most likely..... I've only seen 1 350 around here and it was black .... Not a whole lot up here in Canada, which is a good thing cause there a nice car adn I'd hate to see them get played out like the civic ....But I'm sure the price tag will make sure of that - I was looking at them on the internet today, Base model MSRP is $42,000 CAD I believe ...

Omega what kind of tires would you put on? Since you own a Z, i would assume you have the money to get tires right away =)

Considering i have some seriously kick-*** tires ON the car right now, im not going to bother getting any. Crappy winter weather is gonna be over in like another few weeks here so its jsut not worth it to get new tires right now. Im just gonna play it out till the weather officially warms up that way i dont waste money having tires mounted and balanced 4 times a year..... Soon, very soon, i will be able to feel this cars TRUE potential. I never got out of break-in period before the ground got too cold for the tires to work properly.

If i DID get new tires though, i would definitely be buying myself another set of Sumitomo HTR+ high performance all seasons (had em on the vic before). Best bang for the buck ever. You cant compete with all seasons that perform as well as parada spec-2's AND have a treadwear life rating of 400+
