WRX vs. Pontiac ???

Forgive my lack of usual detail, in a rush to head out to the pool.

I was coming home from Disneyland today in the WRX when I came upon the car pictured below. It sounded mean, and with no cars in front of us, I prayed for a red light to give him a run. Figures.. the only time I want a red light, I cant get one..

We were pacing each other for a mile or two just hoping for a red light to see what each car was all about. With no such luck, I gave him a thumbs up, and put out 3 fingers to see if he wanted to go from a 3 honk roll. We both slowed down to 40-45ish, and I dropped to 2nd waiting for him to give the 3 honks and go. I saw 3 passengers in his car, so he definetely had the weight disadvantage (as if a old muscle car didnt have that already), but he took the 1st punch.

I quickly realized he had taken off and being already in boost, quickly caught up the 1/4 car he had on me. By the top of 2nd I was a fender ahead, shifting to 3rd I continued to pull. Shutting down at the top of 3rd I had about a car and a half on him at about 90ish.

We slowed down and he pulled along side me, "I'm much better down low." he yelled across the lanes.

"AWD here.. Im much better as well. *insert cocky smile here*"

I gave him another thumbs up and continued my way home. We caught another light together, and I managed to snap this picture of his car. Anybody know what kind of Pontiac this is?

edit* If he didnt have the passengers, Im sure it would have been dead even. It was a fun race, my 1st V8 "kill" in the rexy.

From a dig, I would have taken him harder. If a AWD car can pull on a RWD car from a roll, then from a stop I would have put a few more cars on him.

there is no pontiac chevelle guys...A chevelle's a chevy. It was probably an old tempest or something, maybe even a 442.

That's no GTO.

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DN

It doesn't match any of the lines here.

EDIT: Maybe you're right. Here's a 1968 GTO, but the side markers on the rear fender are a little different.

it's cool, some of those old cars changed looks every year (or one year had a distinguishing feature, like the split window vettes) it's a far cry from newer cars that stay the same for 10 years.

He was definetely an auto, so unless he had some translock or whatever those things are called that let you hold revs up for a launch, I would take him from a dig. Big tires or not, unless he was running slicks, there is no way he could have taken me from the line.

I have Azenis plus AWD, so traction is never an issue for me off the line.

The Chevelle of those years doesn't have the front triangle windows like the GTO/Car in the picture. The 68 Chevelle is the only one that somewhat matches the lines of the car in the pic.

I still think it is a GTO though from the front edge of the door. The front edge of the door on the chevelle is straight. The front edge on the door of that car comes to a slight forward peak in the middle just like the GTO.
