attempting to drift my civic
attempting to drift my civic
I'm going to share my story about last night with you guys. I feel extremely embarassed and stupid for doing what I did, it taught me a good lesson and I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was. Last night was cruise night here and I was going to follow this dude in a CRX to a spot he knew that was great for racing. My buddy wanted to talk to a few othere dudes so we did that and eventually the CRX left and I didn't see him again. He sort of explained where he wanted to race, so me and my buddy in his mustang went there and raced, I knew this was no competition for him but I'm not one to care if I lose. It was a nice spot, nothing there, absolutely dead. Well there was this road that had a pretty wide 90 degree turn, so I thought I would attempt to drift my civic. I did a few going, doing both right turns and left turns. I started out slow. I did one going about 40 and my car barely slid. This left me wanting more. I decided I would do it once more. I gunned it to about 60, let off the gas, to about 50, maybe a little faster, and hit the E-brake on a right turn. I slid out pretty good, caught traction, went left, hit my front left tire right on the curb. That tire stopped there, didn't go over, then the back of the car slid over the curb. There was little damage to the back wheel. I have the stock *** 14's. The front wheel was very ****ed up. I will take pictures of it. Thank god I had no body damage, but my friend with the stang is very knowledgeable of cars, and said I ****ed up my lower controller. We put the doughnut on, and I drove home doing 30mph. The car pulls to the left extremely. I can do a lane change with out touching the wheel. I've learned alot from this, and I do hope that this learns some others a thing or two. DONT DRIFT A CIVIC IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO. I will never do it again. I expect hating for doing something this stupid. Hell I would make fun of someone for doing this. Yea it was long but oh well. Rule #1 of driving, NEVER USE THE E-BRAKE. You can't drift FWD anyways. At best, you can slide. I know how to do it correctly, without the ebrake, but I'm not going to say, because I don't need idiots doing it on public roads.

The one time I "drifted" my civic I had a car full of people and was chasing this chick who just hit someone, so I take this turn going about 65-70 and the rear end just flew out and I was sideways, so I slammed the brakes (not smart) and immediatly started going straight across the road at a car, accelerated and turned and ended up catching the chick as she hit a curb trying to turn. My friends were like "dude lets do it again!" It was gay though so I will never do that **** again.
i dont by any means want to become a drifter in a fwd civic. the opportunity was there, so i thought i would give it a go. anyone have any experience working on the lower controller?

I finally got down the "take your hands off the wheel halfway through the turn but the tires still grip through out the rest of the turn" thing and it scares the crap out of anyone that rides with me but feels so awesome (!DO NOT TRY THIS!)
Its not too dificult at all. I have slid around many many corners at high speeds, and never once in my life used the ebrake. I dont understand why everybody does it that way, but I agree, I will not explain how to w/out it. I just always think its funny when people say, I "drifted" around a corner using my ebrake.
Glad your not hurt and the damage wasnt worse.
Peace

drifting = controlled out of control slide? does that make sense? hope it does now dont be a gay *** and do it on public roads..
Ohh ya do it at the track if you got money and dont mind ****ing up your car. No one drifts 100 percent affectively.NO ONE not even shumacher... Dont feed me BS on d1 drivers, I'll post you a pic of thier car ****ed up.
So there drifting is cool but gay at the same time

hey ****er i did it on in the middle of nowhere at midnight. We were there a good half hour seeing not one car anywhere in sight. i would not have done that where someone could see or possibly get in the way. i didnt expect to **** up my car, it was an accident. theres a first time for everything. and the last time is sometimes the first time.
