no its not popular... depends on the cars, track and class. I always run my vette in the 1/4 mile becuase an 1/8 doesnt exploit its full potential.
My WRX buddies race 1/4 only for the same reason.

the only 1/4 mile track is CSW and it only opens every other week. and its higher elevation so your times suck, + you only get 2-3 runs if your lucky.
1/8 mile is open every thursday and its a well preped lower elevation track. Also you typically get 3-6 runs if you get there early. it's basically better for the money.
no way I'm gonna drive 2 hrs just to go to a decent 1/4 mile track.

from what i've been told and understand that it takes .5 seconds for your brain to recognize what your eyes saw, thats why .5 is a perfect light, anything below that means you can react before you see the light switch, right?
^^ no.
if you get a .500 light that means youanticipated the green light just right. if you go when you see the green light then your r/t will 1.xx. typically you take off on the last yellow light to get close to the .500 mark.
it takes 1/2 a second or .500 for the lights to hit green. thats why .500 is perfect.

i ussally launch right after the third yellow light of course i have only been twice and ran like four times total that is why i think if i spend more time after it drys up i can hit 10.2 or 10.3 cause i got 10.4 spinning through first pretty bad.
I dunno bout the NHRA rules. there are different types of trees so you have to know which one they are using to know how good the r/t is.
theres like the sportsman tree and something else. also they dont have to wait for the three yellow lights to go. they se e2 flashes and go I believe. I'd say check nhra.com and read through the rules and stuff cause I really dont know for sure thats just my best guess.
