The SLR is not a good argument because it is a ***** car compared to cheaper faster cars like the Ford GT and such. Its for rich wanna-be's who just buy it to say they have the Most Expensive MB. You could easily get a better car for way less money. Also, I am not arguing Autocross, I am arguing that all-out sports-cars that don't pander to wanna-be car enthusiasts don't have AUTO transmissions, but this is not the point of the whole thread, well the part that we hijacked at least.

It actually is a different mag, as it turns out, my mistake. However, in my mag, the significantly SLOWER-than-the-coupe Cobra barely loses to the actually-just-as-fast-as-the-coupe Corvette Vert.

Yes, either could win, which we both agree on. However, we disagree because I say, given equal drivers, the Cobra will win, you say the opposite. My proof is multiple Magazines, physics nullifying the Convertible test, the overwhelming Cobra power advantage, among other things. Your only proof is the ONE article that shows a Vert Vette barely beating a coupe Cobra, which is likely the FIRST 03 COBRA they really tested EVER, or an early one for sure. However, the Vette had been out for 6 YEARS. Hardly an even playing field for the drivers.

Oh, and my friend hit a 13.0@111, though his highest trap was 113, I believe, leading to the conclusion that his driving/tires are holding him back from SIGNIFICANTLY better times. Also, he doesn't speed shift.. this is his first manual and has only had it since this fall. Finally, many Cobra owners have hit mid-12's STOCK.

Yes, either could win the race, and yes the Cobra is a good deal, and I wouldn't say its necessarily a better deal. The extra money for the Corvette goes to a lighter chassis and better handling characteristics.

Yes, that car is a beast. It has DEMOLISHED SEVEN Cobra R clutches so far. it ran an 11.4 or something smoking the tires through at least a couple of gears.

Nope, he didn't have engine work AT ALL. More fuel, more boost, STOCK LONG BLOCK.

Impressive Vette, a agree, but that hardly constitutes good mod response when it is an all out tuner car. I will say that the LS1 responds well to mods, there is no doubt about that, but its hard to beat a SCed 4.6L V8 that can put 500hp/tq to the WHEELS for 1k and top 1000hp and run 8's with stock internals.

Obviously, because of how close these cars are in 1/4 performance, this debate will probably never end, and I'm pretty tired of writing stupidly long responses. Can we just say that it is too close to call and both just assume we know our respective cars would probably eek out the win???

I move for a peace treaty given that you accept.

I agree, domestics own in straight up bang for the buck (Cobra, Vette, Ford GT, Viper, SRT-4, etc.) except rally-bred racers, seeing that we don't have any(though the Evo and STi won't be easy to beat if Ford ever brings the Cosworth Focus )

And BTW, good luck with the Vette even if it is slower than the Cobra.... j/k


Disclaimer: I definately don't have anything against imports (in fact, I am a big fan of many of them) in case anyone was going to say something, but I am a Ford guy at heart.

I'd take a built 350 or 502 over any 4cyl motor regardless of mods.

You're right, and we don't have anything against import lovers, we just happen to like domestics more.

its rough believe me.....i'll i hear about are mustangs, contours, focus. but there are growing numbers of imports. old muscle car dudes show absolutely nooooooo respect for imports. its annoying.

edit: imports definetly don't rule detroit, and never will.....ever

Depends what kind of Imports you are talking about. See imports such as M3's M5's AMG's Porsche well mostly its european manifactors, are not so much look down upon as japanese or asian made cars.

true.....but i've gotten in arguments with muscle car owners who believe that the evo VIII is just some "ricer" car. they tend to look down on all things japanese, and call every car that comes out of japan a ricer
