Being a former Mustang owner, I have NEVER understood the obsession with "humbling Mustangs". And it's not just Civics...its ANYTHING with 4 cylinders.

Yes, I know that many younger Mustang owners are creeps, and think that Flowmasters and 3.73 gears makes it a 12 second car. They suck, what can I say? But I always see the SAME people talking about how much Mustangs stink, and then talk about beating them. Do they suck, or are they raceworthy? At least make up your minds

I dunno either but it's getting miiiighty old. Oh well, at least Mustangs apparently set the benchmark for "cars to beat" because that's ALL I ever see in most Kill sections. Oh well, goes to show that at least Ford did something right in the bang for the buck under $25,000 area. Now let's see if they can improve the reliability

BTW, I just want to say that there is NOTHING wrong with posting about beating a Mustang, and this is in no way directed toward Mr. Celica.

I have no chips on my shoulder about anything. I have been beaten by 12 second Civics in my old heavily modded GT, and was VERY impressed. But when I beat a car, I never make smart *** comments about "humbling" certain makes/models or anything. A race is a race...who the **** cares?

It's just stupid comments and misconceptions that keep the gap between imports and domestics alive and thriving. I personally would love to see it closed, so I can happily own BOTH cars without dealing with childish, ignorant comments from either side.

^^^ Yeah, but they do have a point in that a lot of Mustang drivers are *******s. However, I've never seen a loser with a V6 pimp his crap like he's Speed Racer.

That's a big reason as to why I no longer drive Mustangs. I got sick and tired of Ricers with fartcans reving at me (Can you say 387ft lbs of torque???) and then the next light some **** in a Mustang revs at me. I was like, "Jesus, leave me alone! I just wanna drive my notch to the store to get som e ****ing milk....."

i was just saying that he seemed cocky thinking he could take him straight up. all the stangs from around here tailgate me, and other sh*t like that cause i own a civic, then i beat them and they want to race again and again and again. and just cause i say ford needs to step up the newer stangs does not mean that i'm bashing them its just stating a truth. i have several friends that will buy nothing but domestic and they say the same thing.

the point is i hate mustangs cause i have never encountered a good one (although i know there are good ones), they always drive like assh*les, want to race

i have nothing but respect for muscle cars (cause they have insane hp)......but not the newer stangs, cause they are mostly driven by younger drivers

I sympathize with you, owning both Civics and Mustangs (2 of the most common cars, and most commonly bashed) has just made me hypersensitive to vehicle bashing :/

don't get me wrong either, i wish there was no gap between imports and domestics.......but there is and always will be. its a two way street though. i went to the dreamcruise in detroit which is the biggest car show in the world basically with muscle cars for miles, and i took my civic down there cause thats my car and its a daily driver.....i got so many muscle heads makin fun of my civic that within an hour i just decided to get out and walk

You must remember that the V6 Mustang was created basically for a 90% female market. I'm not trying to be sexist, but it's true. That's why 95% of them are AOD tranny. Try to find a 5-spd V6....

The Cobra, on the other hand, only comes with a 6-spd manual tranny.

But yeah, most V6 and older Stang owners are a bunch of assbags

I like the older mustangs. I wish I never sold my nova now. I been missing it since I did. Once I retire my celica I'm buyin another muscle car and I will race that cause IMO you can't really say you're fast until you're pulling mid 12's or better.

To really straighten this mustang and import thing out we have to think about the directions things are moving.
First off the modern aim for young teenage boys and adults has shifted from the market of v6 pony cars to well...pocket rockets?
I mean look at the neon Srt4? its from dodge the founder some best muscle cars and that Neon has earned mad respect in my book, it can autocross accel with the best of them.
domestics SVT focus, GM culbolt, pontiac sunfire supercharge package, Saturn Ion RS.
Than we look at the imports following the same trends of fast lightweight cars with small high poweroutput engines like the eclipse GSX, civic Type R, RSX type S, OZ rally Lancer.
The thing is there will always be a tight race for the newest trend style and caption in the low end compact market. excluding our civic, trully sorry we do own econos. We must look torwards the SI civic and The Type R civic as the compact sportcars that really diserve to be tested against the american muscle of late. how does it messure up? do we really enjoy the wave of the market? well thats all our personal opinions. However flaming eachother over it doesnt really bring about anything.
Comaros in my opinion were made for guys and mustang were for women, mainly becuase of the seating postion.
As for performance.while we bicker over this let us look at the true worthy battle that is respected. That of the high price sportscar/supercar class.
Toyota is rereleasing its Supra..yes the rummors are true I have a friend that works for Toyota of america.
Honda is updating the aged NSX
Nissan is releasing the skyline GTR in 06 to the US. The skyline is already here = G35 Coupe
Misutbishi is circling with rummors of a new 3000Gt
Gm has released the new C6 vette!
The Zonda will soon be purchasible in the US
the Lotus Elise has been released
Thats about it so far....now that is a battle for supremecy over the market of sports cars. The public is switching the automakers to hp wars once again!
in the end its all opinion, Civics have proven themselves and mustangs have a long history.Just remember no matter how much you brag or become cocky about how fast your car is, etc ,etc. There will always be something faster!!
make your car fast-dont rice it. But also remember to enjoy it and make it something for you to look at and be proud of. The hard work put into a ride is the best answer to that

^^^ Good post!!! I enjoyed reading it . I agree with everything you said. I also think that Mustangs and Civics, despite racing each other, are REALLY made for different types of fun. V8 = low end torque, obnoxiously deep and grumbly exhaust note. 4 cyl = high end revs, better handling characteristics out of the box. Can they do the other's better aspects with the right amount of money? Yep. I also like the styling of both.

I will always own both to have the best of either world . The reason I tend to get upset sometimes on here that some of the MOST ADAMANT haters of the Mustang/Camaro are people who are 17-20 years old, and some have never even OWNED a V8 How can someone be so pompous as to think they can judge a vehicle without giving it a chance? Ever since imports REALLY hit the scene, it's pretty much been the trend to insult and laugh at domestics as outdated, low tech etc...come on, grow up.

Being just a tad older (going on 23...The first of many Civics my family owned was a damn 1981 CVCC!!! ) when I first fell in love with cars, you either had a Mustang/Camaro/Grand National etc, a Porsche/Ferrari, or 300ZX/RX7. These cars all came from the factory with some semblence of a performance package. There were no chips on people's econobox shoulder, so the rivalry was not as heated as it has become between imports and domestics. Out of the box, every car was a pretty good match for each other. So when Civics emerged as "tuners", I didn't undestand it. To me it was a reliable, economical car that was pointless to modify because of cost. But after 3 Civics myself I could vouch for what a fun little car it is, so I wanted to give it a chance. And now, after learning about what is truly possible through the aftermarket offerings, I DO understand why people modify Civics (heh, still don't get the desperate cries for attention, but I probably never will )

I personally will never spend the amount of money on a turbo kit because I am just tooooo hooked on low end torque and RWD, but I will be swapping out my pathetic CX motor in the future and doing basic bolt ons. If I had just written off imports from the beginning, I never would have come to love them as much as I do. So when I see people say retarded junk as "I hate all imports/Civics" or "I hate all domestics/Mustangs", it's usually not just a opinion...it's unfortunate ignorance.

Need I remind you that an 03 Cobra will show its taillights to BOTH of you (Stock, of course). Just had to throw that in there. Oh, and btw, I am one of "5%" of Mustang V6's w/ a Manual Tranny. The auto's are so slow and so common that I know they have a part in the reason everyone assumes all V6's are disgustingly slow (not that low 15's is fast, but a lot of people that run similar or significantly worse times have the misconception that they are all 17 second cars.) Oh, and as a statement to all the 'unreliable' comments... no, they are not the greatest thing ever, but my car has been significantly more reliable than my mom's Acura TL.

Ever heard that the cobra weighs more pounds than a vette? Also even if you had a modified cobra I would eat it alive! i dont have a stock vette.......venting...sorry. Not to be a **** (because you made excellent points that I very much respect), but both cars are so close that it would basically be all up to the driver (reaction time, traction control, and shifting abilities).

With semi-pro drivers, the Vette always won, BUT not by much. TO say that EITHER a Cobra or a Vette would "blow the other away" is just plain ignorant and very "red-neckish."

They are BOTH great cars (one just happens to be about 1/2 the price).


As a side note: I agree very much with what you said earlier with respect to current auto trends. For me though, there's just "something" about sitting behind the wheel of a late 60's Big Block... Smelling the rich leaded fuel (only a carb can get you that thick rich-running mixture smell), feeling the entire car rumble. Even the WAY that a big-block with a true distributor idles all unpredictable gets me all happy inside. There's just nothing like it. I love the newer cars too, but they just aren't the same.

If I thought a Cobra could beat everything, I wouldn't even bother with a Vette or a Supra, but it can't, so I compare it to cars in its general range.

That is a vague generality as many lightly modded Cobras put down 500whp/500wtq and some are near 1000whp WITH STOCK INTERNALS.
