Being a former Mustang owner, I have NEVER understood the obsession with "humbling Mustangs".
And it's not just Civics...its ANYTHING with 4 cylinders.Yes, I know that many younger Mustang owners are creeps, and think that Flowmasters and 3.73 gears makes it a 12 second car. They suck, what can I say? But I always see the SAME people talking about how much Mustangs stink, and then talk about beating them. Do they suck, or are they raceworthy? At least make up your minds

^^^ Yeah, but they do have a point in that a lot of Mustang drivers are *******s. However, I've never seen a loser with a V6 pimp his crap like he's Speed Racer.

I sympathize with you, owning both Civics and Mustangs (2 of the most common cars, and most commonly bashed) has just made me hypersensitive to vehicle bashing :/

don't get me wrong either, i wish there was no gap between imports and domestics.......but there is and always will be. its a two way street though. i went to the dreamcruise in detroit which is the biggest car show in the world basically with muscle cars for miles, and i took my civic down there cause thats my car and its a daily driver.....i got so many muscle heads makin fun of my civic that within an hour i just decided to get out and walk

The Cobra, on the other hand, only comes with a 6-spd manual tranny.
But yeah, most V6 and older Stang owners are a bunch of assbags
I like the older mustangs. I wish I never sold my nova now. I been missing it since I did. Once I retire my celica I'm buyin another muscle car and I will race that

To really straighten this mustang and import thing out we have to think about the directions things are moving.
First off the modern aim for young teenage boys and adults has shifted from the market of v6 pony cars to well...pocket rockets?
I mean look at the neon Srt4? its from dodge the founder some best muscle cars and that Neon has earned mad respect in my book, it can autocross accel with the best of them.
domestics SVT focus, GM culbolt, pontiac sunfire supercharge package, Saturn Ion RS.
Than we look at the imports following the same trends of fast lightweight cars with small high poweroutput engines like the eclipse GSX, civic Type R, RSX type S, OZ rally Lancer.
The thing is there will always be a tight race for the newest trend style and caption in the low end compact market. excluding our civic, trully sorry we do own econos. We must look torwards the SI civic and The Type R civic as the compact sportcars that really diserve to be tested against the american muscle of late. how does it messure up? do we really enjoy the wave of the market? well thats all our personal opinions. However flaming eachother over it doesnt really bring about anything.
Comaros in my opinion were made for guys and mustang were for women, mainly becuase of the seating postion.
As for performance.while we bicker over this let us look at the true worthy battle that is respected. That of the high price sportscar/supercar class.

V8 = low end torque, obnoxiously deep and grumbly exhaust note. 4 cyl = high end revs, better handling characteristics out of the box. Can they do the other's better aspects with the right amount of money? Yep. I also like the styling of both.
I will always own both to have the best of either world

Being just a tad older (going on 23...The first of many Civics my family owned was a damn 1981 CVCC!!!
) when I first fell in love with cars, you either had a Mustang/Camaro/Grand National etc, a Porsche/Ferrari, or 300ZX/RX7. These cars all came from the factory with some semblence of a performance package. There were no chips on people's econobox shoulder, so the rivalry was not as heated as it has become between imports and domestics. Out of the box, every car was a pretty good match for each other. So when Civics emerged as "tuners", I didn't undestand it. To me it was a reliable, economical car that was pointless to modify because of cost. But after 3 Civics myself I could vouch for what a fun little car it is, so I wanted to give it a chance. And now, after learning about what is truly possible through the aftermarket offerings, I DO understand why people modify Civics
(heh, still don't get the desperate cries for attention, but I probably never will
)
I personally will never spend the amount of money on a turbo kit because I am just tooooo hooked on low end torque and RWD, but I will be swapping out my pathetic CX motor in the future and doing basic bolt ons. If I had just written off imports from the beginning, I never would have come to love them as much as I do. So when I see people say retarded junk as "I hate all imports/Civics" or "I hate all domestics/Mustangs", it's usually not just a opinion...it's unfortunate ignorance.

With semi-pro drivers, the Vette always won, BUT not by much. TO say that EITHER a Cobra or a Vette would "blow the other away" is just plain ignorant and very "red-neckish."
They are BOTH great cars (one just happens to be about 1/2 the price).
As a side note: I agree very much with what you said earlier with respect to current auto trends. For me though, there's just "something" about sitting behind the wheel of a late 60's Big Block... Smelling the rich leaded fuel (only a carb can get you that thick rich-running mixture smell), feeling the entire car rumble. Even the WAY that a big-block with a true distributor idles all unpredictable gets me all happy inside. There's just nothing like it. I love the newer cars too, but they just aren't the same.

I havent been posting cause I've got a project I'm working on involving my car. I'm tryin to get movin cause I'm racing Saturday and this project has to get done before then.
